Low FPS in Fifa 09

The game plays fine but it isn't nearly as enjoyable at a mere 30fps.
When playing PES 2009, I get a constant 60fps which is so smooth.

Any way to raise my fps in Fifa ?
I'm playing the game with everything set to high.

So I've tried...

180.60 beta

All give me no more than 30fps. Is there something I'm missing ?

Should v-sync be on or off ?
When I turn it off the fps is hardly constant. One moment its 50fps then 30, 20 and then 60.
I really need to have it constant at 60.

How much RAM do you have?

Are your Windows updates current?

When was the last time you reinstalled your OS?

How many background processes are you running?

Try to disable as many programs as possible that are running in the background, for example...

I have an Intel Core 2 E6300@1.86GHZ. I have 1GB of RAM

I can't remember the last time I reinstalled my OS. I try not because of the burden of reinstalling all programs some of which aren't very easy to find.

I don't understand how that link (V-sync) is supposed to help. Forgive my being a n00b at this.

You ask what is wrong with a constant 30fps. The thing is at 30fps the game is a bit laggy especially when there are rapid movements such as the ball being cleared over a long distance and such.

i dont have the game but that 30 fps cap looks like a in-game setting, like the one halo 1 had...

vsync would be capping it at 60fps...

check your Antialiasing settings, you may have set it to 8x or 16x or something like that, that would explain your low fps and then maybe its not a cap its the average fps your game is running due to your AA settings...

 

I think, you answered the question why Fifa 09 is running 'only' at 30 fps on your PC, already yourself. You have quite a few processes that you could disable: AppleMobileDevice, jusched.exe, realsched.exe, ITunesHelper, etc., etc.

Besides that you only have 1 GB of RAM and your CPU runs only at 1.86 GHz...

So the solution is simple, imo: buy a second 1 GB RAM stick, reinstall the OS, or at least optimize/clean it, and maybe overclock your CPU. That should help you to get a few more fps.

 

also RTHCLP.exe, u only need that for configuring once and it takes 25mb of ram

 

nah it shouldnt make his performance stay at a steady 30 fps, it should be stuttering alot if problem was memory...

it looks he has lots of AA enabled and its making his performance stay at a steady 30fps

 

Did he mention what resolution he's playing at? And confirmed AA settings? Both have a major impact here.

 

I haven't set AA to anything. It's on Global Setting.

I'm playing at 1440x900 resolution. I have everything set to high in the in game settings. But irrespective of whether its at low, medium or high. The game still runs at 30fps.

 

Your CPU is bottlenecking the card. 1.8ghz is a bit too slow. If you aren't using a branded computer, you might want to start overclocking your CPU. There should be a few guides up around the forum on how to overclock, give them a read.

Now if you are using a branded computer, most likely overclocking is out of the question. So its either stick with the 30fps or upgrade the CPU + RAM.

If none are possible start with the basics

-Defrag HDD
-Use msconfig or spybot's startup list control to kill off unneeded processes and startup programs.
-When you game, turn off non required apps such as firefox, messengers, etc.

 

Any tips on that ? I've wanted to upgrade the CPU for a long time but I'm not too sure.

Looks like my machine should be more than enough. Unless I'm wrong I think I satisfy the recommended requirements.
Why then am I getting very low FPS and lag ?

 

As already stated it wouldn't hurt you to OC your CPU and also add another 1GB or Ram and maybe upgrade to some DDR2 800MHZ

 

Don't know how to go about OC my processor.
Is there a guide I can follow or something ?

 

I'm not to sure when it comes to intel, but i'm sure somebody will be able to link you to a guide. I have only ever had AMD but i'm sure you could get yor CPU upto 3Ghz as the intel's OC like madmen which would be a noticable difference from what you have now.

I would also consider upgrading to 2GB of some decent DRR2 800Mhz or higher if your mobo support's it. I was getting some stuttering in GTR Evolution replay's and my system is more than enough for that game, so i added an extra 2GB of ram which took me to 6GB and it has all but gone.

I thought there isn't much difference between DDR2-667 and DDR2-800. Why spend more on nearly the same thing ?
