177.79 - 177.98 Benchies

Decided to do all the old benchies plus the 177.92 I didn't have before. Now running at 3.3 8x1650 1072.5mem 5-5-5-15. Did have an issue with hanging in boot and getting the 25 boot code from my xfx780i for a minute. Did the vdrop mod mod and waayy better, also had one time of video corruption and restart on gamespot using 177.98's. I personally use the 177.83's, and everything is the way it should be. BTW I'm running 1.416v in CPU-Z but 14.325v in bios, took 1.475v before vdrop mod to be at 1.416v.

Anyway, 9800GTX+ SLI will start for me in 3days so I will have more IF wanted.

Looks allright to me. I'm still using .83's because they always felt best for me.

I really don't get why newer drivers perform progressively worse, although that's not a big difference, it always bugs you as new drivers are supposed to improve performance, at least they should be on par with the previous ones.

Always makes me angry as Nvidia releases drivers that minus a FPS here and there.

 

what would you prefer? your game crashing every couple of minutes and needing to reboot the pc, or overall it runs a barely noticable 1fps slower?

remember to ask yourself that question before deciding what makes you angry.

 

how can you get such a accurate fps?which software are you using?can you tell me?

 

Are you asking me? BTW I will try running all these again with the physx 8.09.04 tonight and tomorrow and see if there is a difference. It does take awhile to do all of these though, but worth it to everyone imho. Thanks

Yeah I can add those, 2 things though.

1) Why would u be using a 174.XX driver still?

2) What is the difference between 177.83 and 177.84? I didn't even know about this driver until now on nvidias/cuda wesbite.

 

1) Because I heard it was good, but I think it's too old to use as well.
2) I saw some benchmarks recently and it was pretty high compared to 177.92 for someone else.

 

I'll try those 2 drivers tonight w physx8.08.18 and then start benchmarking ALL drivers with the new physx driver afterwards for an even comparison. I will do ALL these benchmarks again wed-fri when I have SLI enabled ; ) Hope to double up on some scores!

 

We'll I finally got done doing the 174.74's and 177.84's. Definitely both great drivers; however, with NO cuda support the 174.74's will not be good at all, that is if good games ever come out soon that really support physx.

Scores seems way weird compared others. I checked EVERYTHING... it's the SAME.

Will try 177.84's again here in a few after new physx.

From your benchmarks I think that 177.83 is still at the top but with 177.84 only some tests got more points that's weird. I'll also try out 177.84 later and see if it's good as well.

So far the SLI setup seems to be great. Have only used the 177.83's so far but are stable. Dont have exact numbers in front of me but will add them pls more benchmarks when I can.

3DMark Vantage did go up into the upper 13K with a gpu score of 12K
Crysis bench went from 42 to 63fps on medium and 24 to 37fps on high settings
Call of Juarez DX10 bench went from 27 to 40fps
COD4 went from 55 to 100fps

MKZ doesnt support SLI and is actually slower when enabled
Fuildmark had no change

Have not tried Nurien but assume will not have much affect as Nurien is mostly physx and cpu.

I'd be interested in knowing what results you get (now that you have SLI) with 177.84 and whether it has the same surprising results before you were SLI...

I'm at 177.83 based on your benchmarks but would switch to 177.84 if it really is that much better...

Thank you for all of that work doing the benchmarks.

Here is my impression but I did not keep track of the numbers.

With 177.98 I get less overclocking ability but more stability. When I use an overclock that had been stable with 177.83 now with 177.98 I will start to get those jiggy jaggy lines in the landscape of a game and an occasional BSOD. The overclocks that always work now are lower but only by a value of 5. Almost inconsequential in performance boosting.

On my computer the two types of BSOD's come on a little differently. The BSOD from stability problems (like from the drivers before 177) has a sudden crash with a notice that the driver had failed. The overclock BSOD has the lines get jagged and then it may or may not crash depending on how demanding the scene is. If I go to a spot on the map that is bland then there may not be a crash.

I am only still using 177.98 because there may be a new driver soon and I can save my energy for installing that one.

 

Well I haven't had time to run tons of benchmarks this weekend but I will soon in the next few days. I have switched however to the 177.84's. I got freezes in COD4 with 177.83 and 177.98 so I switched to 177.84 and voila no more freezing. So far the 177.84's have also given me the best Vantage score and Crysis is nice and smooth with 16xAF and high settings, Fraps shows 30-40FPS which isnt smooth compared to 100+ with COD4 but smooth nonetheless for Crysis. BTW COD4 went up 5-10fps switching from 177.83 to 177.84. I get 100-110 now : ) but I play with vsync so 60fps all the time fully maxed.
