    I hate this part....
    gigabyte ep35-ds3r
    4 gigs ddr2 800
    intel quad 3.0ghz q6600

    PSU setup 650watt for system
    650watt psu for VGA only -- yes I got 2 PSU's (Thank you Thermaltake =) )

8800gt 3dmark06 score 14,119 (latest nvidia drivers, posted on their site)
    4870ati 3dmark score 14,698 (8.6 catalyst)

Im new to the red team... not here to flame or anything...was trying to see if anyone could explain why an 8800gt is somewhat neck to neck with a 4870

<---blew that setup to your left, so had to rebuild lol

Try 3dmark vantage or some real world gaming you will Def see a difference in the 2 cards, 3dmark 06 is more or less CPU benchmark so you wont see a huge jump and 14k is normal for 1 4870 card.

Yeah 3DMarks means nothing, the 4870 is a lot faster than the 8800 GT, its not much slower than a GTX 280.

srsly ppl stop playing with 3dmark its engines are made by amateurs and it doesnt mean anything... do some ingame tests if u want its not 100% precise because of the drivers but its surelly much better than 3dmark...

Lol 3Dmark06 usage should be banned.

Its programistic failtrue. Run Vantage for GPU score or real gaming and enjoy HD4870 :)

I didn't notice much of a difference in benchmarks either and thought it was all a fanboy scam, this is until I noticed on UT3 and CoD4 in maps where the 8800gt would slow down quite a bit the 4870 doesn't even break a sweat.
I was running with no aa on the 8800gt and 4x aa on the 4870 and it still doesn't slow down at all @1920x1200

Been saying this over and over and over, like kapu says stop using 06. So absolutely freaking annoying to have people come into the forums and post multiple posts about how 06 marks suxorz.

Same setup i have. sold my 8800GT to a buddy for $100!!! So my HD4870 only really cost me $190. I saw a HUGE jump in frame rates in games at 1920x1200 where I could crank the AA up to 16x when before I had to keep it off. It also exhausts that heat outside rather than inside. Enjoy your new beast.

But strange thing is that in race sims(GTR2/rFactor/GTL/RACE'07 etc) 4870 seem to be worse than 8800GTS 512. It doesn't have same performance as 8800 had in those(DX9/XP) games.

I run those games at 1360x768(32" lcd-tv) 8xAA/from game, 16xAF and almost all maxed from games, and 4870 has problems to keep steady fps with vsync/tripple buffering/adv.frame rendering at 1. While 8800 ran games at similar settings w/out problems.

Crysis and other fps's run much better but that problem with race sims is really annoying.

And because that i've start to think to sell this 4870 and buy GTX280.

wow ,i was just about to ask about this,i love to play ARCA/RFactor/GTR2/RACE07/LFS....poor framerates in those titles is definetly a very very bad thing for me,and i was thinking about buying a 4870 over the GTX260 to replace my 8800gt....can anybody do real benchies of any of these games????

my framerates are butter now...but i would really like to be able to run 8-16x AA in these race sims with maximum cars on trck & visible on the track and never go below 75fps?
