Upgrading to GTX280.need PSU advice

greetz all.its been a while
so...ill be getting the XFX GTX280 XXXversion soon and i was wondering whether my PSU could handle it as it lacks 8pin pci-ex cables.just 2 6pin ones.i know there are 6 to 8 pin cable adapters out there but will that rly do the trick?

i just upgraded mine for anticipation of the radeon 4870x2. Mine is a 750W (800W peak) with 60Amps on the 12v rail. Plus it only has 1 12v rail for maximum stability. Also it lowered my computer temps by 2c. You can buy it here, with a $20 mail in rebate. It also is 80+ certified and PFC active. No modular support though but not really a big deal.

hmm its not bad but its not too much of an upgrade in terms of raw Watt power.(ergo not much space for a possible SLI future.i like planning ahead thats all)

Your PSU apparently has 38A on 12V rails. It would be a tight one. I thing it would do, but I'm not 100% sure. I wouldn't risk tbh.

Over these frantic last couple of weeks iv'e been researching every requirement under the sun for the GTX280 as im getting mine next week.

Your PSU is more than enough to run the XFX GTX280 XXX, plenty of Watts and plenty of 12v & amps.

So go for it mate, grab that powerhouse of a card.

 

I was looking at reviews. I guess they were wrong.
Thanks for clearing it up and showing it to me The reason why i've rather checked review over official website is because official websites tend to post less info about their product, and even those informations are over-hyped and just theoretical sometimes.

But i doubt a big company like Thermaltake would lie about something significant like the amps on the 12v rails.

Better to be safe than sorry i guess.

Thats the one I would go for. The Corsair HX620 wich I got atm is superb. Handles my OCed SLI comp with np. Also HX 620 is officially tested by corsair to be stable at 840 wattage with no problems. So I bet the 1000W has a simular scaling in actual performance.

guys i just found this and considering buying it as im preparing to migrate to a Quad 2 Core, a 80Amps 12V is perfect no?

 

I've read somewhere that its supposed to handle output up to 1200W if its needed.

 

My power supply has an 8 pin connector but I do not know what its for, would it work to power a GTX 280?
