HIS is a good brand. Anyways i never played WOW but i thought it was CPU bottlenecked? This could be the reason for no increase in performance. How were other games?

You could have a nuclear powered 3DMark destroyer and WoW would still run badly.

On a 4GHz processor? Really? People need to stop using that as the reason WoW runs bad on GOOD pc's. I have a 1.6GHz C2D Laptop w/ integrated Intel graphics and it runs WoW decently. The game isn't resource hungry.

Well if you dont mind shelling the extra cash for the GTX 280 then do it. Overall its the better card.

But the 4870 isnt all that bad either....its all up to you here.

Not to sound out of line here.........but what do you think killed the card.....?

Heat, Lack of air flow, power to the card unrealiable?
    What is your PSU rating?

I mean I know you are going to replace the card, but I have two in CF now, and had a major problem with heat in a number 9 Case, before I moved it to a cosmos 1000.

I made damned sure I had enough power to run the two cards...........!

Did you do anything, change settings, modify or change any hardware in your rig before the crash?????????????

Please do tell........might help someone else in here avoid the problem in the future.

I was personally thinking of switching the heat sinks and fans to frigid cooling or another aftermarket GPU cooling method....!

You installed an LED light with the computer on?
The HD4870 is an awesome card - and there's nothing wrong with "Visiontek". I have a Visiontek HD3870 in another machine and it runs really well. ;)

Not to thread jack but my girlfriends P4 machine with an X850 can run wow maxed out with AA and AF and still manage at least 40 FPS. Something is wrong with your machine, I can run it at 1680x1050 with everything ingame at max 4xAA in CP with 16xAF, and it never drops below 60 even in heavily crowed areas. My only issue with it is constant nvlddmkm resets.

1650x1050 @ 4x AA - All sliders maxed vsync off, I VERY seldom get under 60 FPS.

    Hmm...

I get all sliders maxed @1920 res and 8xAA 90-120fps in windowed mode(CF off)
drops to 60-70 during raids or AV...

Well that's my point... It should never dip to 40 FPS. Which is what kapu is having, and we're not. Its weird

    EDIT*

Flew around in shat, flicking the camera around in dense places, and then went to a full AV from the start.

    Minimum - 59.6 FPS
    Average - 110
    Max - 250

Anyway, sorry for being so off topic :X

If NewEgg replaces the unit for you make sure they don't send you a used or refurbished one.

I wouldn't let one bad card that you most likely fried cause you to switch to nVidia.

I would contact Newegg for an RMA.

I explored this issue before I bought my 4850 and Visiontek offers the BEST Warranty but this brand is not available in Australia:

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...hd4850-should-i-get-want-technical-input.html

    http://www.visiontek.com/teksupport/warranty/limited_warranty.html

"VisionTek Products LLC, (“VisionTek”) is pleased to warrant to the original purchaser (“Warrantee”) of the graphics card (“Product”), that the product will be free from manufacturing defects in material or workmanship for the lifetime of ownership of the product when given normal and proper usage.
