Hi I've a e6600 on an asus P5B. It actualy runs a 3.5 ghz at about 1,58V and on core temp at idle 63degrees and full load 68. I tried to put it at 3.6 but the voltage on the bios must be over 1.6 and the temps is at 73 at full load. The thing is that when I run something like PC wizzard ou else, it tells me always tells me that the voltage is lower then what I put on the bios. What do U suggest me to do ???
The Intel technical documentation for the e6600 specifies 1.5v as the maximum voltage, and 1.55v as the absolute maximum. ie. less than 1.5v is safe, 1.5-1.55v is not guaranteed to be safe, over 1.55v and you will probably degrade your CPU (the rate of degradation depends on temperature also). This refers to the voltage you set in bios, not what you see in Windows. The voltage set in bios is the limit of the voltage spike you get when the processor changes from a load to idle state. If you have loadline calibration in your bios, try turning it on as it should reduce the vdroop (the difference between what you set in the bios and what you get in Windows). Alternatively you could vmod your board to the same effect, though you shouldn't remove vdroop completely as it's part of the Intel power delivery specifications.
Hi genbrien, not good at o/c but have a question to ask. I tried to o/c my c2d previously with the same P5B board. Now the thing is, whenever i o/c, the PSU will not power up immediately after i press the boot up button. It usually boot after 1 or 2 seconds. Twice i've sent my 465w Enermax PSU back for repair. Now i am not sure if the PSU is bad or something wrong with my PC, now using a silverstone strider 560w, but dare not to o/c again. Do you have the 1 or 2 seconds delay boot up when you o/c? Thanks
I've read that this is normal but don't remember the reason why. My system does it and so most other OC'd systems I know of.
1.58v 68c FULL LOAD? Its no problem. I had my Q6600 @ 4ghz 1.808vcore for more than 6 months, 60c load. Before I had watercooling with the same cpu I had it at 1.58v as you for about 4months, with 70c IDLE and 85-90c LOAD. So I had my q6600 for about 10 months, and nothing happened. So for you temp, you can get more vcore if you want And now I have my 45nm E8400 @ 1.6vcore... Never had a problem
Your PSU should work fine. Here's a handy PSU calculator you may want to check out. http://www.extreme.outervision.com/ I consider myself pretty adventurous when it comes to my own computer equipment and I do venture beyond manufacturers' specs, especially when I am bent on determining the limits of my system, but I would never recommend doing the same to anyone.
I got mine at 1.3625 volts 38-40 idle and 59-61 load running orthoes for 3-4 hours no warnings/errors. I've read on intel 1.4volts was the absolute max.. and 60 degrees was the absolute max.. Am I wrong?
