Auto If I erase my profile will it reset to automatic? and if not which file do I edit to return to auto. Thanks
i do not know in case of erase but if you edit the same file you made manual again to automatic it will be automatic again
Just finished setting the fan, still can't believe that the solution was so under our noses... set speed @ 20, 35, 50 and 70%, all normal clocks... and a 80% for 650/1045 but holy **** :gape: I tried 100% and i'll tell ya, got scared that the entire pc would just blow Is that healthy?!? I mean... WTF?!?! Not even my stock cpu cooler is so loud Anyone knows a top limit? like 85 90%? :idea:
x1900xtx was way louder then this thing @ 100% atleast got the 4870 ^^ tbh temp fix is great... didnt like idle 80c >_<
Hello guys im new to the forums. I wanted to try this fix to raise the fan speed on my Radeon 4850 but I am stuck. I created a profile, unlocked Overdrive and opened the xml file but I dont see the lines that im supposed to change. I would really like to know how did you manage to keep overclocked 4850 @ 45% fan cycle in 58-62 C temp interval? Do you live in a north pole area? I did the "bretware thingie" the first day I had bought my 4850 CF but my readings were not so well. At 65% fan duty cycle like Bretware suggested I had a lower temps on both cards in 2D from 80C Gpu-1 to 56C and 84C Gpu-2 to 62C. The fans rotated at 6600-7000 RPM and the noise was very loud not to say that I'm very suspicious how long these fans can survive at such high RPMs. My dissapointment was complete when I found that in 3D mode the temps were almost the same, Gpu-1 at 87C, Gpu-2 at 92C. If I leave automatic the 2D mode is really high at 80sC but 3D mode is only 5C-10C hotter than in manual 65% fdc, so what's the point? In automatic mode the highest fan duty cycle was 47% and the noise is still low and I didn't have any crashes or BSODs so far. I got Xaser II case with 5 80mm CMaster fans, 2 front, 2 rear and 1 at side blowing directly to cards. I really can't see how did the most of you all manage to bring you temps so lower than me??? Average temp in my room is about 30C (currently is 29C). Before this 4850 CF setup I had 2900XT CF and those "power monsters" idled at 60C-70C and heated to 80C-85C the most so I think that the airflow in my case is sufficient for any cards.(when I put my hand in case the front fans are nicely blowing in cold air and rear ones blowing out the hot one) Cheers
I have a quick question, Does this Fan Mod work with in Vista 64 running on Cat 8.7 Beta? It doesn't seem to do squat for my fan....just sits there at the default of ~21% Maybe I am doing something strange.... Edit: got it now
Just a bump to see how others are going with temps. I may be going crossfire with 4850s this afternoon and everything Ive read about temps has me paranoid lol. They will be on a rampage board in an Antec 900 case.
I'm thinking the same thing. I have excellent air flow in my case and I keep my computer room nice and cool. My fan speed is set at 55% (that's as loud as I can stand it) and my idle temp is 46c with load temp around 74c and those are reasonable temps imo. However I do wonder about some of the unusually low temp claims posted by others using the same GPU & stock cooler. My overclock only raised my temps by a degree or two so thats not much of a factor. Either they live in a very cold house or there's some other unknown factor to explain the extreme temp differences between pretty much identical GPU's. Could it be that some of these temp claims are being exaggerated just a wee bit? :3eyes: - I don't know why anyone would need to lie about cards temps but I can't help but wonder.

Most people are saying that those are VRM readings but I'm suspicious cause when I touch my card in a power unit area (orange needles below 6pin pci-e power) it is mildly warm about 40-50C which is far away from 85-115C that GPU-Z displays. The back side of the card is really hot and you cannot hold you fingers on it so the high heat issue exists but I'm really stunned how this thing works @ all when it's always in 80-100C range on default and stock cooling. Anyway, I have a warranty for my cards, if ATI/AMD says it's normal - let it be. I'm playing Gears of WAR for 4 last days on ultra quality 1680X1050 4XAA 16XAA at 60fps constantly and didn't have any issues with crashes, freezes and etc. Cards are hot as hell but who cares I didn't make 'em that way. I have 2 Coolmaster's Coolvivas Z1 with 80mm fans and 2 small 45X45mm heatsinks for cooling mosfets from before but still I don't know will I bother to mount them on cards or not.(those coolers are very wide and they block more than 2 slots) Cheers
Well, it's warm in my room. My Sys is 40C, CPU is 30C and GPU is 50C. That's with the GPU at max core and mem. It does tend to heat up the rest of the system, so, you need good case cooling with this card.
Newer gfx cards will get hotter and hotter, but don't forget they're made to work under this heat load. Ofcourse, there's always watercooling... (x1950xtx steady on 43C with a P4 3.4GHz in the same loop) .
