Anyone who thinks we haven't made progress on racial issues (at least here in the USA) is simply wrong. I have two children - a boy 16 & a girl 6 and the racial situation is totally different now compared to when I was growing up. My son & daughter have many friends from all different races & religious backgrounds - black, white, Hispanic, Jewish, Catholic - you name it. My wife and I have become very good friends with the couple living next door - he's black and she's Puerto Rican. Major social changes have occurred here in the USA in just the past 20 to 30 years and I have witnessed it first hand. The reality is we would see a dramatic decline in racism if everyone was viewed as individuals, treated equally and afforded the same basic rights and civil liberties under the law rather than allowing ourselves to be grouped into special minority or religious categories. Unfortunately the same people and politicians who claim to be against racisms actually promote it by encouraging this group think mentality and by dividing and labeling the population into groups such as minorities or gays which only fuels resentment & more racism. Then you have the type of people like blue5 here who feel it's OK to insinuate someone is a racist based on absolutely nothing! Talk about hot air, and no substance .....
funily enough due to the fact that black holes are pulling all the nearby stars towards them, they are actually very white looking , called black because even light can't escape them due to their immense gravitational pull... have i gone off topic yet... can some one tell me again where the colour of people came into all this science?
I think if peeps would just stop using those words (out of sight - out of mind, type thing) it would soon become a non-issue. If I say "Ship him back to China" (it's just an example); referring to a man from China, who just committed a number of "home invasions" and who knows what other terrible crimes and then is back on the street; it has absolutely nothing to do with him being from China. It is about him (and thousands of others) coming from some other country to this country just so they can commit their crimes - rape, steal, murder! I'm sure that if I went to one of those other countries and committed a serious crime - perhaps not even that serious - I would either be jailed, killed, or at the very least; shipped back to Canada. At least AFAIK, other countries don't put up with any "foreigners" committing crime in their country!
Why do I see this thread heading down the immigration track? it doesn't even have anything to do with immigration unless you still consider all black people to be immigrants. On topic, I am sure there is more to the story and as usual some small and probably very significant part of the story has been left out by our friends in the 'Dallas' media.
