    GTX 260 and 3dmark 06

    Hi..
I have a shiny new gts260 here and it runs great.
really seeing great improvemend in games , but run in to an odd issue.
    my previus card was a gts8800 g92 and when i run 3d mark06 got a score 11200 +- drivers 174.74
would have thought that whit my new gts260 scores whould go up but no way. 11300 drivers 177.41
    thats 100 points diff.:paranoid:
is that the bottleneck issue because my proccessor is to slow?

It should definitely go up more than those 100 points. Try to re-install the driver and run Driver Sweeper in between the un-installation an the installation.

bottleneck, processor needs to be run higher. if you ran the benchmark with 4xAA on with both cards, i bet the difference will be huge

3dmark's are very cpu limited because iof the resolution and the lack of GPU effects (AA/AF)

The new drivers with the GTX 260 are optimized for Vantage rather than 3dmark 06. Try running Vantage and you will see a much higher score difference. Just goes to show the near uselessness of 3dmark.

    What's your CPU clocked at?
Sounds about right though with my AMD FX62 clocked at 3180Mhz and a 8800GTX I got around 11,276 when I got my Intel quad core it shot up to14836

These are old scores 11,276 was from Jan, 2007 I'm sure it would be higher now, seems like once you get to close to 4GHz they really start to open up and AMD don't clock that high they will but not as easy as Intel does.

So yes I'd say it's bottle necked.

I get my 280GTX today I'm curious what it gets probably won't be much better then my 8800GTX except for FPS while gaming on my 30" monitor:)

just like Copey said, your cpu is the prob here... i have 12k with my setup.

No need to worry though, games will run allot faster compared to that old 8800gts.

I'd do a reinstall of your VGA drivers and of 3dmark06. Yeah use the DriverCleaner program also.

I can get 15,000 with my setup (E8400 4.0, 8800 Ultra OCd); so you should be doing better than what you have.

I scored 12,575 with my 8800gtx and 14,280 with my gtx260 on 2006 but on vantage my score almost doubled.

Like everyone else has said 2006 is very cpu dependant now but vantage is more gpu dependant so you should run that instead.

You should still see great increases in games.

    thanks for all the info..
i alway's change the drivers like uninstall boot into save mode and run driversweeper and also drivercleaner hahah to be save.
i dont have vista so thats not an option right now but in game i see great improvement from my new card.
i am a bit of a flightsim fan and play a lot of lock-on (don't laugh i now its old)
my old gts 8800 could even run it with decent framerate and this new gtx260 runs it with ease never drops under 60 fps all settings max.
    Man it really looks great!!!
wont overclock here thats more of a thing fur the expert but still found it strange that i only got 100 points increase in d3mark 06 and games run so much better.
things cleared up a little bit now and i think there is notthing wrong then with my card.

I Overclocked my 8800GT from stock 600/1500/1800 to 702/1728/2016 and my 3Dmark06 score actually went down around 100 points. But in all gaming applications I gained 5 to 10 fps. 3Dmark06 is pretty much a joke.

As long as you notice an increase in game performance, why should you worry? I only use 3dmark for stability testing, I don't care about how high I score. It's the performance in games that matters.

Try 3D Mark Vantage with both cards and there your new GTX260 will shine. Vantage is not as cpu limited.

    My score on 3DMark06 with 8800GTX: 12,000
My score with a Single GTX260:13,400
My score with Dual GTX260s in SLI: 12,200

Now by these scores you would think there is something seriously wrong with my system. But thats not the case. Even when I moved from a single GTX260 to Dual GTX260's the FPS in 3DMARK nearly doubles in all the tests.. but the score still went lower.

And in my Games the FPS went up greatly... 3DMark06 is just not very accurate in my opinion. Vantage is the one people should be using to compare with these new generation of cards. I've been unable to run Vantage myself (It crashed the first time I ran it, and wont let me run it again until I purchase it lol)

wise words, and i dont think that is bottleneck, i have the same cpu with stock clock (3ghz) and it runs great, with my sli i got about 14k which is great... and 3dmark 06 is a very cpu demanding, dont worry about that, is just a test, nowadays games donĀ“t demand that high proccess... you are OK with your cpu, try to increase your clock to 3,2ghz with a decent oc and you are gonna be better...
