As many of you know by now, the new PhysX beta drivers work wonders on 3D Mark Vantage but no real games could really use them. This included UT3 which apparently could not use the GPU for PhysX as turning Hardware PhysX in the game on and off produced the same horrible fps in the PhysX maps. Well the new UT3 PhysX mod fixes that. Physics now run on the GPU successfully when you have the proper PhysX driver and video card. Just tested with 177.35 and the PhysX driver on a Geforce 8800GT. UT3 Tornado-PhysX map-New PhysX UT3 MOD NOT APPLIED: 4 fps UT3 Tornado-PhysX map-New PhysX UT3 MOD APPLIED: 25fps average (18min, 40max) So go and get the mod and enjoy PhysX in UT3 fully working! Maybe the maps have been tuned for Geforce physX, the maps are not new, the modding itself may be. The filesize is different for example, the size of the pack is over 100MB bigger than the physx mod pack I found through google.
Let me see if i understand this, if you have a Geforce 8 series card or above, PhySX software, whatever it be Nvidia or UT3 mod, it increases performance on games powered by Physx and non physx games?
You need to have PhysX enabled in the PhysX driver for UT3 to use it correctly with this new mod. Currently only G92 and G200-based cards are supported. There are no new maps if I tested it right, just the old ones now working with GPU-based PhysX. To work: Get the latest PhysX Driver Get the latest Forceware driver (177.35 or above) with modded infs if you need that. Get the mod and enable PhysX ingame Enjoy.
I like toying around with it though. Anyway, I have a slight problem with this... It still doesn't seem to enable true PhysX, since my CPU load is 100% on both cores at all times in both Lighthouse and Tornado. PhysX: 08.06.12 ForceWare: 177.41 Using this new PhysX UT3 mod... Pretty much having the same results as before, and CPU once again seems to be doing all the work... EDIT: The hardware physics box is checked.
not quite true i installed and played these maps with 175.16 whql and physx 8.04 drivers so it works with older too and it stays enabled (although it doesn't show gpu ppu acceleration in physx drivers), i didn't install that hotfix though. but still 25fps is crap loluke2:
Yes it does work with older drivers but not 100% properly to my knowledge. As for 25fps being crap/....it is way better than the 4-5FPS I was getting before. And that is ONLY on the PhysX loaded maps, normal maps which now benefit PhysX run like a dream. Peezee: Are you sure you installed everything correctly? And does 3D Mark Vantage use the GPU for PhysX? If Vantage does, then you did install correctly, if it doesn't then you should check your installs.
Looking at it this way: Games which do physics and were CPU limited now will run way faster Hopefully World in Conflict can use this new engine!
I see better fps with a 8600GTS + PPU than these drivers with GPGPU, prolly just too new to compare, but it looks like a step back atm...
