Erm... not sure what to make of that. All i know is that if i benchmark my GX2 in crysis now at 1600x1200 4xAA on high i get more than 24fps.

Everyone seems to be very impressed, going on about how that is being as powerful as a 3870X2 is a good thing as it's a single GPU matching dual GPU's. I couldn't give a flying **** about the technical feat it may be, bottom line is:

The 3870X2 costs 40-50% of what they're saying the GTX280 will cost and shadows GTX performance for the most part. Who here is going to shell out several hundred dollars for a few extra frames? Hell with that.

Goes to show that when they said 4850/70 Crossfire would beat GTX, they were probably totally right - and it's going to cost less.

This equates to an epic fail in my opinion.

I got a feeling this card is going to be faster than some think it is....just a gut feeling.

I seriously hope so because at that price, the bang per buck ratio is absolutely dreadful.....

Hell...I think they haven't even written drivers to take full advantage of 128 stream procs efficiently...much less 240 of them. I simply can't see this card sucking with 240 stream procs, 512bit, 1GB of mem..and then all the physics crap built in. It just seems like it's not possible for it to suck. :bang:

The ATi 4870 or something like that is way powerfull then the GTX 280, now nvidia has to step it up!!

Similar things were said about the 2900XT....

But yeah, as much as I want ATI to smack nVidia around a bit (as punishment for their laziness) I do still predict the GT280 to be the fasted single GPU card.

This is how I see it going:

    1: 4870X2 (<-this is what i'm buying btw :p)
    2: GTX280
3: GTX260/4870 GDDR5 (they'll trade blows in some games, the 260 being slightly faster overall but at a higher price)
    4: 4870 GDDR3 (price/performance beast)
    5: 4850
6: 9800GT (just nVidia's way of getting rid of remaining G92 chips)

    4850 vs 9800gtx:

So the 4870 is over 2x faster than the 4850 and is "way more powerfull than the GTX280". :bang:

God i wish they would release the cards already so i can buy either a 48xx or 3870x2.... All this waiting is agonizing since my x850 can hardly pull its weight anymore!

The 4870x2 is faster then the GTX280, but I don't about the single ATi cards.

Would really help though mate if the GX2 benchmark resembled the real GX2 performance, when i get home i'll post a benchmark which will clear up the fact that i don't get 24fps at those settings but indeed i get more than 34fps recorded by the gtx280.

i just can't believe this, im still not going to judge until the offical benchmarks are made by guru3d,
for a card that sopously has been in the works for a few years now,
    thats really upsetting,
i was planning to witness a very dramatic change in performance from the 3xxx and the 9xxx series.

And you are. This is a single GPU card! I think it's impressive.

Would also help if you knew exactly where in the game they tested, how long they ran the bench, or if they simply used the ingame bench. Until you can get that info, the comparison to your Gx2 is pointless.
