Well, i've got XFX 7950GT w passive cooling, and i may sell it on ebay bcs ive been checking 9600s..., but i cant find any direct-comparative with 7950gt vs 9600 (aka in the same system/settings etc), could some1 give me one plx? thnks
Well what system do you have. But let me put it this way to you my old 7950 GX2 is slower than my 9600GT and my games are much more playable (crysis, bioshock, call of juarez, supreme commander) than before with maxed settings.

I haven't seen any direct comparisons between the 7950 & the 9600 but I did see this comparison to the 8800GT. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=11 The 9600GT would score just below the 8800GT depending on the resolution. I think you would see a decent performance increase going to a 9600 and it would be even better if you overclocked your CPU a bit.
I had a system similar to that before i got my Q6600 an 680i, in fact it was the same CPU (clocked to 2.75 - 2.9Ghz) with the asus m2n-32sli (nforce 590). Im pretty sure if you buy the 9600GT you will not be dissapointed.
OK I have an old PC with a AMDX2 4200+ and it has a BFG 7950GTOC, and playing GOW/COD4/WOW/NFS Prostreet, i got maybe 5-10FPS better with the 8800GT SC. The 8800GT is just alittle better then the 9600GT, so i would think you would see 3-8FPS more if you upgrade. This is based on AMD X2 4200+(not OC'd) 2gigs PC5300 DDR2 and Vista HP(32bit) I pulled the 8800GT out when i build this system for SLI, but it was not a huge gaming difrence, but my 3dmark score went from like 6k to 10k, wich realy does tell me how much it has nothing to do with gaming. If you can play the games you want with good FPS, and you dont plan on playing any DX10 games in DX10 no real need to upgrade IMO.
hm... ty too, ill check that, also today i upgraded my 7950gt overclock, to 640/840, made 4 3dmark06 benchies and it worked well, and made 3 crysis gpu test and didnt crash so i think its good altho temperature reaches 90º on crysis gpu test :/ its this too risky? ive been always cpu overclocker, my first gpu overclock which includes volt (1.35v) ill keep checking comparatives in google/here, and try to find some comparative which tests 7950 and 9600 w almost the same hardware
ya i know, but i think the most limiting thing on my pc is cpu thats why i take his oppinion as main thingy, anyways im selling on ebay, if i get some buyer who pays near to 9600gt, ill sell and done xP (9600 its xtremly cheap >_<)
yea no one is saying that the 9600GT is not better, what i am saying is on a AMD 4200+ your only getting 5-10fps, if your games are already 35-40FPS or better, and your not using DX10 games no point is spending $140-170 for a few fps. and yes 90c is way to much, i think 70-75c is safe for that card.
well im not spending nothing, 9600 is 115€ (well its a shop that not many ppl know xD), and 7950gt was 240€ one year ago, so i may have luck, depends of who sees ebay, its not the first time i sell sumthing that has better alternatives at the price of those alternatives xP, its just trying luck graphics card r supossed to be safe till 110º, or thats what they say, anyways my card has 85ºc alrdy with stock clocks :$, anyways i only reach those temps with crysis gpu test, in normal crysis playing i get like 5-8ºc less, and in 3dmarks even less
I think it will be a bigger jump than that. Just going from a 7900 to a 3870 with my old Athlon X2 more than doubled the framerates in my games and I turned up settings on top of that. You won't regret the buy. The 7950 is getting old and lacks shader power for new games. The 9600 will be twice as fast in most games and if you're CPU limited then just turn up the AA. You won't regret the purchase.

If you do plan to get a 9600GT, id recommend finding the cheapest one possible and putting an aftermarket HSF on, such as the Thermaltake DuOrb. The single slot reference cooler on it just doesnt cut it and it gets hot when OC'ing. If you dont plan to OC, then disregard everything i said because its still pretty fast.
I just built a budget gaming rig for a family member, and used a 9600GT in it. Man, I was really impressed with how zippy that card is for only $150. Great buy.
oks ty all, ill finally buy it *_* ill turn AA on rts games, bcs if crysis/cod etc, cpu has 80% use on each core, so i think ill notice the change xP btw one... question i always had since i saw the card, its nvidia just losing money when selling that cheap (not losing, just earning less), or they ****ing found a great architecture when based on quality/price?
I would i have thought that Nvidia used the 8800 series originally to recover the R&D cost of producing the architecture. So with so many GPU's out (the whole 8 & 9 series) all using the same architecture costs are kept low and they should be making up the cash from the sale of every type of GPU, sinces their all pretty much the same card.
