Compaq Pesario V500 Series CPU: 3 Stars (AMD Sempron 1.8ghz, little underpowered in my opinion, would have liked a Core Solo or Duo. Eats more battery then Core as well. RAM: 3 Stars (DDR-400, max 2GB, I guess its a Sempron, so DDR works, though I only have 1.2GB of total memory) Storage: 4 Stars (80GB HD *more then I need*, quiet, reliable, though 4200RPM, CD-RW/DVD-R is quiet, but kinda slow starting up. Burns CD's reliably, mislabled as Lightscribe (boo...I wanted it too...) Battery: 2 Stars (1.5 hours idle, less then an hour if CPU above 50% usage.) Graphics 1 Star (Ipaid an extra $100 to get the model with ATI Xpress 200M, I should have shot myself...Cant play anything newer then WC2. Dont game on it any more, to slow.) Weight: 3 Stars (6.4 pounds, tad heavy, I might trade it in eventualy for something a pound or pound and a half lighter) Wireless: 5 Stars (Very reliable, exelent range.) Screen: 3 Stars (Bright, but no-Anti-Glare, cant be used outside durring the day, or in a bright room, glare is very anoying. No dead pixles.) Keyboard/Mousepad: 5 Stars (Keys are perfect size, pad is responsive and acurate, arrow keys are located by themselves, with no extra keys around them (very anoying to have, if you accidently hit one of those surronding buttons on some laptops. Function + F keys for various tasks (movie/music, screen brightness, opening things, etc..) Left/Right click works fine.) Audio: 4 Stars (Realtek+Altec Lansig Speakers, onboard audio sucks, but the sound still sounds nice, good bass and midi (who uses treble ) great for music and movies on the go. (and porn too ) Overall: 4 stars. I would preffer to have a lighter notebook with better battery life and anti-glare, but for $320 (Origonaly $910) (on sale, display model, + rebate) it was a good deal.
i bought a sony vaio s150 2 years ago for like $2800. crazy, especially since the performance is declining significantly...but what can i say - it's portable, it's convenient to bring to class, and it's totally sexy :eyebrows:
I bought a Asus 2500H like 5 years ago 15.4" lcd screen 2.8 ghz p4 L2: 512kb 40gb hard drive 5400 rpm 512mb ram 64mb integrated graphics infrared wireless 5in1 media card reader 24x dvd-rom surround sound capable For around $1500USD. Quite heavy at a time but very durable and easy to clean and parts are interchangeable like all asus laptops. Battery life not great because it gets hot quickly. AC adapter extremely large. Looked like a brick. I could have probably knocked someone out with it. Also got a Toshiba Satellite A100-LE a year ago for around $900USD 15.4" WUGXA 1.73ghz intel centrino L2: 2mb 80gb hard drive 7200rpm 1gb ram Multi-layer DVD-writer 128mb ATi 200xpress wireless Alot lighter than the asus 2500H. Not as durable and alot harder to clean. Alot more quiet than the Asus 2500H and battery life is excellent. Although the power keeps on switching from battery to AC if the laptop is plugged in. Last around 3.5 hours. Gets a little warm near the palm rest. Alot of bloatware from toshiba like all toshiba laptops. Recently bought a Toshiba Satellite P105-s9722. I was looking into gaming laptops and this proved the best bang for the buck. At an amazing 1495USD I got: 17" WXGA+ Core 2 duo T7200 2.0ghz L2: 4mb b/t two cores 200gb Hard drive 4200rpm 2gb ram Multi-layer Dvd-writer Nvidia Go 7900gs 256mb bluetooth Wireless 5in1 card reader Fingerprint reader I looked around and then saw this. Comparable to a dell E1705 w/ same specs @ 2000USD, i'm saving a lot of money. Its a great gaming laptop, but it tends to get really hot due to the video card after intense gaming. Battery life is extremely low. About 1 hours and 2 hours if setting are really low. Although the website, indicated 3.5 hours. Hard drive a bit slow, but can't complain.
^^^^ m8 thats a really nice laptop there. Too bad none of the companies have tried to put a 7900Gs in a 15.4 inch. I really want them to because for me a 17" is a little heavy to carry everywhere. Your Laptop looks the same as mine just with a better video card. How's the performance on that thing?
Yeah but a gpu like that requires 17in. 3-D Mark 05 -6225 3-D Mark 06-3824 It pretty decent considering its a laptop and all. Gaming wise it runs F.E.A.R at an average of 50fps with all settings high and native resolution. Hard-drive slow though but i could always update it ^^.
Powernotebooks.com was a very good recomendation from the first page. I did a good look over last night and found some amazing prices for the hardware you can get. Given you shave money here and there since you dont get an OS and stuff like that (optional) but when you dont need it why pay for it?? It starts at $900, my config was ~$1500. The mouspad is indeed dimpled, and I personlly prefer it over a flat one. My brother tried it and agrees, but to each his own.
