Remember the GeForce 8800 GS It seems that NVIDIA is going to replace the GeForce 8800 GS with the GeForce 9600 GSO in May. The 9600 GSO is still based on the same G92 core with 96 stream processors... More...
8800gs was a damn good card and was overlooked for no reason. not sure why they are bringing this out under the gt as its equal and better in ways to the 9600gt!?
Well the memory is gonna be limited to 192-bit still I believe and the g94 core seems to be more optimized compared to the g92 so with this card, I think it'll win some and lose some against the 9600gt, similar to the 8800GTS 640mb and 8800GT.. Still if Nvidia can get their prices right (or rather the different brands since they're being given more freedom with this product) then the midrange market could be taken to a whole new level of choices and possibly performance with soem nice overclocks in shader intensive games HyBrId
Nvidia are literally just taking older cards and sticking a bigger number on them. I'm starting to get alittle pissed off with it. Why not just rerelease the FX5700 as the FX9700....
i agree it is a joke, but this is business and the common man doesnt have a clue and usually doesnt use this stuff to its fullest anyway!. they did it before with a 4800se which sounded better than a 4600ti but was in fact a 4200!.
nVidias product range is mind blowing at the moment. I think its something like (involving none gaming cards from top to bottom somwhat in performance): GeForce 9800 GX2 GeForce 8800 Ultra GeForce 9800 GTX GeForce 8800 GTX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB GeForce 8800 GT GeForce 9600 GT GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb (somewhat obsolete) GeForce 8800 GTS 320mb (somewhat obsolete) GeForce 8800 GS GeForce 8600 GTS GeForce 8600 GT GeForce 8500 GT GeForce 8400 GS What a range :O
Yeah, they definitely need to do some trimming there, which could be the whole point. Possibly the start of a phase out of some of the lower end 8 series?
It was 4400 with AGP8x to be precise. This is basically the same thing as what it was before, they change bus and then name. I still don't get it why 8800 GT is not 9800 GT or something similar.
They are just shrinking the process in which the older cards were made, it's much cheaper to do that for them. It's no different then what Intel has been doing since the launch of Core 2 duo, I fail to see why it's an issue for people.
They don't even fab half those anymore. It's more like: GeForce 9800 GX2 GeForce 9800 GTX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB GeForce 8800 GT GeForce 9600 GT GeForce 8800 GS GeForce 8600 GTS GeForce 8500 GT GeForce 8400 GS Well the fab the core for them, but they don't cut them as such anymore. Anything that they sell at stores is just left overs.
In the UK both the 8800GTX, and the 8800 GTS 640mb are still available at some retailers (the GTX more so) so I wouldnt say they are completely faised out. But I do agree that theuy probably will be eventually.
Completely agree with this. If they're going to rename it the 9600 GS, atleast give it 256-bit memory.
haha not called anceint guru for nothing god agp 8X, what a load of BS that was, they were really pushing that on the marketing at the time, i remember the MX had 8xagp!
I'm going to get 9600GT then get a 9900??? when that hits later this year FTW! Everyone says 9600GT does well an runs a little cooler
