Hey all, Anyone having trouble with the latest X-fi drivers from Creative??? Well, I certainly do! Here's my problem: Every time I start an application which uses sound, after 5 - 30 mins it ends in a hard lock and a continueous high beep, totally freezing up my computer... At first I thought my soundcard was heating up, but it turned out to be them ****ty drivers from Creative. I reinstalled every Creative driver from the installation disc and the problem was solved... This happened on Vista and on XP... I am like :bang: and uke2: .... What is the best driver to use atm? ... VultureX
We have a thread on the 2.15.0006 drivers for the X-Fi's somewhere in this subforum. Works for some, not for others. I (and it seems you too) fall into the latter category. As for X-Fi driver recommendations, either use 2.09.0007 (aka: Web Update 4, dated Aug 06), or the ones from the Windows Update site (dated Jun 07). There are also those 'Daniel K' ones which got a fair bit of mention in Creative's latest spat with the internet community. The link is somewhere in the thread Creative Going too far!!!, although Google might lead you to the results faster than trawling through however-many pages that thread has now.
hm happened to me a couple of times too, 2-3 times in FEAR, 2times in Prey, but very rarely, i came to conclusion that my gpu and cpu was OC'ed a bit to much, so i lowered a few mhz and seems to work fine now... try lowering ram speeds to default 800mhz and lower latency if you want them to be faster and see if the system gets more stable...
It's really essential to uninstall previous Creative drivers, then run driver sweeper before installing new drivers. A lot of random Creative bugs are caused simply by older file versions that refuse to be replaced. FFF added a ton of entries to the Guru3D Driver Sweeper that resolve issues like this. It's worth doing for peace of mind alone. Creative make bad installers, yet their uninstallers are worse. :wanker: Go Go Gadget Guru3D Driver Sweeper!
Thanks for your advice! I ran a gurusweep and reinstalled the latest drivers; I'm still having problems (who doesn't :bang, but no big crashes anymore! At least I can always fall back to the drivers Ultraq mentioned.
Well, Xp doesn't crash anymore, but in Vista I got a hard-lock-beep-crash after 4 mins of listening music... :\
How do you uninstall the creative drivers ? and i thought all the new drivers are only updates not full drivers.
Just uninstall the drivers, do a clean up if you wish. I've just bought my sound card and these drivers work great in xp and vista 64 driver version 1304. Using the installer seems to install the older driver 1283 which gets popping sounds in games on vista 64, but you can install version 1304 via device manager which works fine.
i would agree with digital hunter. my guess is your cpu, northbridge, or memory either need more voltage , or less clock work. not too mention installing software under those conditions can corrupt.
Can anyone help me to install the web update 5 drivers and keep them installed? Every restart I get the Windows found new multimedia device. I've unistalled/cleaned multiple times. I'm not at my machine right now, but what driver is on the X-fi cd? I have the xtremegamer, that driver works. Ok I put my CPU back to stock and now the drivers will install and everything works. Does anyone have a overclocked system with an x-fi? My old SB Live! was fine with the overclock.
These drivers work absolutely fine for me in Vista Ultimate x64. I never had richer sound. all my programs work also TH,X Console launcher, etc.
Indeed it had something to do with my overclock... I discovered that I can't overclock any higher than stock settings at any voltage or I will get this sound hard lock... Very strange. Everything worked fine untill I installed these drivers.... And now I can't overclock anymore...
does it happen to be that you got ram oc'd asswell. and not anymore atm heck dont get hardlocks anymore ?
