Gran Turismo 5, probably one of the best looking racing games. FULL 1080p HD.

If GT can do it, other games can too, it just depends on developers.

Todays computers struggle with 1920x1080 because they have to be optimized for thousands combinations of graphics cards/CPU's/RAM/drivers etc. PS3 and 360 only needs to be optimized with one combination.

More 1080p games hould start to show up as the console is devloping, people compalin about the PS3 but the 360 is far worse.

720p is popular due to developers having it harder to learn to program for Cell. all of the public quotes from various developers say the same thing, plus EA mentioning its only using roughtly 20% of PS3 power so no doubt more games will follow to higher resolutions as devs try harder to manage stacks and overflows and all that crap. the cell is less forgiving of sloppy coding.

pc games are never optimized for hardware, thats the drivers job, they just limit their artistic direction to the amount of ram or number of theads they want to make use of. resolution is dependant on how much left over power you have after the developers decided artpath...efficient engine code helps ease hardware burden but rarely do they take the time to try very hard for pc games since hardware is upgradable or user can choose lower detail options so theres no need to bother.
many will gradually try harder to push consoles using tricks or better coding cause there is no other option to obtain better graphics without doing so.

Big difference between the two is that one was specifically marketed as a 1080p power house for all our next gen gaming needs, and one was not.........I'm sure you know which was which.

Anyway my whole point being if they cant get games that are being developed for the Ps3 to run in 1080p then why the hell were Sony selling the thing as a 1080p gaming machine.......I am expecting games at this stage to now at least support 1080p, the Dev's have had plenty of time to get to grips with the hardware, so if RFOM2 and MStorm 2 cant run at 1080p then it seems that there are more problems than just Dev's getting to grips with the hardware.

We were promised full HD 1080p gaming love.

As somebody else above has pointed out, they are only using 20% of the machine. I think we can safely say that in upcoming games, the devs will learn how to make more out of it. I don't think that a year is enough to max out PS3. Maybe 360 has been topped, but PS3 is far from it.

I dont think either have, wait for Gears 2 to come out first, as the devs would have had near on 2 years(or more? cant remember) to push the 360, ps3 is still like a baby but doesnt mean it will be better.

    And I still say 720p = enough.

I looked at some 1080p tvs last time and it's not really impressive.

I watch my blu-ray movies on 1080i and damn it looks ****ing good.

Interlaced instead of progressive? who cares..

Alot of games are not 1080p, just upscaled. By hey gt5p looks sweet, i'm sure resistance will too.

These resolutions were found out by a guy called Quaz51 in beyond 3d forums. Enjoy

1080p really comes to its own on larger TV sets like 42 inches and above ( though it is nice to have on smaller ones too ofcourse from a gamers perspective ) but up to 37 inches 720p will do quite fine.

As for Resistance 2 and its resolution, i think it'll be running at 1080p, the guys behind the game are very talented when it comes to coding on Sony's consoles, anyone who has played Ratchet and Clank on the PS3 will probably agree but we'll know more around June as i seem to recall reading the devs promising actual gameplay footage to be out then.

20% i find very hard to believe, i mean if that were true then why are games being released in 720p only, it does not add up........20% being used of the machine and yet 1080p seems to be a major problem for anything but arcade games....and where did you get a year from, the PS3 was released in November 2006 in JP/NA, so 17 months later and still no enmass 1080p games, and even this years upcoming games are not looking like they will be 1080p.

Don't matter which way you spin it, the machine was marketed as 1080p full HD gaming capable which would deliver, but 17 months on and we are still waiting, and this years release don't show any sign of changing that.

So whats the problem....can the machine really do 1080p or have we all be fed marketing hype because up untill now its looking distinctly like it cant pull it off.

    Got any sources for these?

I really want to slag of some people with hard facts on that game. I know quite a few PS3 users who bought Xbox360's because it said 1080 on the back of the Untamed 360 box.

That game is fugly as hell when I use to have it. Jaggies galore, hell a PC game with no AA even put it to shame.

This is no way meant to be a console fight. What intrigues me to this after you saying that is... why is the same thing happening for the 360... there isn't very many 1080 titles for it either. It's all being upscaled with its dedicated upscaler chip. Yet the 360 game devs slap the 1080 on the back of the box, when its really not. It's just being upscaled to 1080.

Will this game support M&K? That's all I care about.

in there eyes upscaled is the same as native, which, can be in certain times. Upscaling Does get rid of jaggies so it does help.

No its a valid question, the 360 was not released with 1080p nor was it marketed as a full HD 1080p capable gaming machine like the PS3 was, it was not until a year later that MS released a firmware update that allowed the 360 to do 1080p, when the 360 was released it had only 720p and 1080i.

And the 360 can do 1080p native just like the PS3 is supposed to do, but unlike the PS3 the 360 also has a scalier chip, where as the PS3 does not....but that not the point, the point being where are the 1080p games, Sony sold the machine with much singing and dancing about its Full HD capabilities and yet 17 plus months later we are still getting 720p releases only..........so whats going on......especially for a machine that some are stating as only being used at 20% of available processing power, which when you think if it is a ludicrous belief and if it were true then 1080p games should not be a problem seeing as all that spare processing power is sitting their dormant.

The big difference again being that the 360 can not only do native 1080p but also has dedicated hardware scaling, that's why everything can be scaled to 1080p, the PS3 only works if the game is programed to be have the game scaled, and even at that if its not programed you will find yourself having to switch resolutions in the pS3 display manually or you will find your self playing games at 576p with games that are not programed to use software scaling and who are 720p only.

And again though this is not about what the 360 can or cant do, its about the lack of 1080p games on a machine that was marketed at great length to be a 1080p gaming machine.........if the machine cant do 1080p in the majority of its games then that's fine, but singing and dancing about how the 360 could only do 720p at release while claiming their machine, which was released 13 months after the 360, was 1080p and this was the only true HD gaming is a bit of a hypocritical stance.........which proves that Sony can BS their customers just as much as MS can.
