Overclockability, lower power consumption with the 8400, 2mb cache. In real world situations your not losing anything really though, certainly not in any games.
r u crazy?!!!!, did you buy the E6850 at full price ($260) you can have the E8400 for $190 and you will be getting a much better cpu. At same speed stock speed teh E8400 is 5-10%, The E8400 is smaller 45mm compare to the E6850 65mm E8400 needs less voltage E8400 runs much cooler E8400 higher overclocking (mine can reach 4.5ghz on air without any effort, limited by my ram right now) E8400 new technology (SS4 etc) E8400 much cheaper i cannot really think of any benefit from the E6850 compare to the E8400. so please do yourself a favor and return your cpu, buy the E8400, or if you can't find it, buy the q6600 for $200 at microcenter and overclock it to 3.6ghz. r
Yeah, agree. Usuario, unless you can return and get the E8x00. There is no major dissappointment i think. You still have a very fast cpu. but i guess what you really gain over the E8400 would be the unlock of multiplier (less likely to be limited by the FSB). O/C should be much easier. besides some had said to have sensor issues with the e8400. Anyway, if you are willing to trade your e6600 to buy a e6850, my guesses is you would trade the e6850 within 12 months anyway, regardsless if e8x00 is available now or not. Just make you feel better, just thought of yourself purposely giving the wolfdale core a miss and get the next gen. One misjudgment doesn't make you a fool.
You lose $70, no real-world benefit of the E8400 (for games 4GHz or so isn't really beneficial. You gain all the o/c experiences of the e6850, less bios/headache issues of the e8400. In time though the issues of the 8400 will be worked out. I picked up the e6750 in Dec, so my chip is about $40 cheaper than the E8400. I lose some GHz but 95% of my tasks do not require a fast chip.

E6850 is suppose to go down in price along side other cpus that have been on the market soon as well.
strange really, i dont understand his point at all. this dude using a E8400, surely he is saying E8400 would say buying a E8400 is a better ****** but wait, strangely he was saying long live to the E8400, but then he is looking forward to the 10-18 months from now, nehalem already. is he not happy with the E8400 already? i bet he would be buying it from day 1, so that he doesn't become another strange kids.

If you overclock the e8400 to atleast 4 ghz then yes.... But im pretty sure you can easily get that e6320 higher than 3.1
It's not a dreadful mistake, just a mistake that's all. I wanted to upgrade to a E8400, but my E6850 zips along quite nicely, Crysis is great on my machine! I don't feel the need to chase another few fps!
