I'm in, got my e6600 @ 3.6 runnin for this.

I have a question though, why does my CPU utilization stick below 50%? :S

I want to give all I have to this and I don't know what gives....

Run two instances or run smp (smp if your 24/7-ing).

You must set machine ID's if running two instances of text only.

    Welcome to the fold! :)

Another thing, why am I under Overclockers Australia instead of Guru3d? This is quite perplexing...

^^What? I'm a noob at this program, sorry... I can only have one SMP run at a time....

You are not :) Finny was folding for overclockers OZ back in 2k5!

The good news is that you will get registered with guru3d as soon as you turn in your first WU (or within a couple of hours anyway).

    Have Fun Folding!

Yep. SMP = Symmetric Multi-Processing. Basically it's sort of a four clients in one kind of a deal. You can technically run as many clients as yoou want, but there would be no point as theyd just bog each other down. :)

OK, so is there anything I can do other than let it run 50%?

    waiting...
been dabbling with this for the last night or so and now have 1 smp running on id 2 and a gui one on ID 1, processor is an e6600@3.0GHz and it sits at 100% (46 degrees C ATM)

Q - I was nosing around in the stanford folding forum briefly and got the impression that it was a bit frowned upon to have 2 instances running on a dual core and that they preferred you to run 2 only if you had 4 cores? is there some etiquette I'm missing?

Hmm, was also using the affinnity changer and now seem to be hitting 100% just running the smp client.... has it sussed out i have 2 cores and done the necesarry? seems to be rattling along anyway. got rid of the gui one.

Ok all this is frustrating me.

I'm going to make this extremely simple and clear. There needs to be a damn sticky for it apparently.

If you have a Pentium 4 Processor with HyperThreading enabled you should run two (2) instances of the No-nonsense version Folding@Home Client. It WILL NOT hurt the Work Unit, it will just slow down the time that you submit a Work Unit but by a very little. But, in the long run, you will have more PPD!!!!!!!On a Dual Core Processor, you should run two (2) instances of the No-nonsense version Folding@Home Client. If you are running 24/7 then you should run the SMP Folding@Home Client no matter even if you're not overclocking. If you have a Quad Core Processor you should run four (4) instances of the No-nonsense Folding@Home Client, if you are running 24/7 then you should run the SMP Client.

I will make this more neat later as I'm busy right now.

    Aircool,

I0ve started messing with the SMP server as my PC can now fold for 24/7, I installed the affinity changer but I still see4 FahCore_A1 processes in the task manager. Is this normal??

I don't know about the four processes. But, glad to hear you'll be folding 24/7 !! :)

I can't connect to the folding servers to get work since last night. Anyone else experiencing this?

    Edit: Hmm... works again.

Yeah I had a little problem like that last night, just leave the client open and it should be ok, just give it some time.

    Great !

I will help you set yourself up folding if you need...

I recommend you run two instances of this.

If you need help with settings just ask. :)

THX for the congrats but even more thank yous to you for enlighting me- first I got convinced by you to give SMP another try and now I am (at least evaluating for now) doing Double SMP to defend my 5th rank from you! ;)
