8800GT Sucks For Me

It's not the CPU. Can we all agree on that? It's either a software problem(FlawleZ pointed out) or the PSU. I'm 100% sure of it. My old single core opty(1.8ghz) pulled more fps than that paired with an 1800xt.

 

stop saying a x 4200 isnt for gaming...

overclock to 2.8 and It will Frikin give u high fps

actually 40-60 avg.

and i got same spec as him,, just a 1GB instead.

There's something wrong. maybe drivers..

Old games will run bad on a good card.. don't know

the amd athlon x2 +4200 should be good enough to play any games.. any



Btw i have a 460W , dual rails with 18 amps on each.

did u disable 1 core? maybe that game don't support dual core?

and it runs so smooth.

but playable.

I am going to wait for a better processor from amd. i just like them

Nah 2.2 isnt fine, I know i had a athlon system for a long time, i know what diff speeds can do.

And cod 4 is alot more optimized than cod 2, cod 2s dx9 rendering is so poorly made.

 

It should list them in the specs, if not on the e-tailers web page, then on the PSU manufacturers website.

BTW - i completely agree with Darkest. An X2 4200 should run COD 2 fine, with no problems... especially with that resolution so I wouldnt rush out and drop a ton of cash right away... (unless you want to upgrade of course )

 

Do you have patched Hellgate? 1.0 Sucks and kills performance... New updates help and increase performance much.

as some here siad, its probably PSU issue, only 1 12v rail isn't enough..

here is a chart for cpu bottleneck, but its not that obvious if you game at resolutions higher than 1280...
anyway bottleneck isn't the major factor here, i'm sure its your psu.

here's the problem 3Dmark 06 score in SLI mode: 12636, while in single card 11356... what the???
Any idea? I think thats not the PSU problem... really Zeus 750W is very powerfull PSU.

 

Thats cause 3dmark 06 is heavily cpu dependent.

Only think u can do is oc the proc or Change AFR modes

 

It's his power supply. i ran in to the same thing using a cheap power supply that came with a case. i upgraded to a 650w and all is fine. always get more amps then you need. more amps means power supply and parts will last long and run cooler.

 

A silverstone Zeus is NOT a cheap PSU. Silverstone make very good PSU's in fact, and that one should be fine for dual GT's. As for 3dmark06, SLI is seriously CPU bottlenecked in 06. Overclocking the CPU will boost your score no end, as it opens the cards up. Thats where the Core 2's really come into their own, as they are so overclockable.

 

I just don't see how my PSU is preventing me from getting good FPS... Does it really matter that much?

 

Nice, thx for the reply mate. I think I'm gonna try this 8800GT at my newest 680i LT. And I have some question, which Core2 Duo is equivalent for this 8800GT? Shall I take the C2D with 2/4MB Cache, 1066 or 1333 Mhz bus?

There is 2 condition, if you're PSU is not good enough to handle the 8800GT
1st your system will totally blank, 2nd if it's operating your system will become unstable (in some condition it would be a random restart).

But if you pass that 2 condition, I think your PSU is good enough to tame the beast...

if the card does not get enough power to run, then it will not be able to run properly - hence lower fps. Infact, you can actually damage the PSU and/or system if you use a cheap/underpowered/inadequate PSU for a prolonged amount of time.

 

So I'm guessing this PSU has 36 amps, which can handle the 8800GT fine?

I've always spend a lot money on well branded PSU's because PSU is one thing you don't want to save. Seasonics, Corsairs, and Antec's are among most reputable PSU manufacturers.

My Crosairs is quiet, has 5 year warranty, modular, lot's of wattages and more than enough amps. It was worth of every penny I paid for it.
