for me this problem has always been oc related, put my card's (used to have gts, same prob at high clocks) clocks slighlty down from when it happens and i'm ok now.

ok my pc is running fine now it seems that running the gfx card from 1lead with two 6pin connectors wasn't enough as now im using two different leads and its been fine for few hours now

ok back to square 1 i now get the errors again after trying to play cod4

i ran 3dmark06 at default setting three times and i thought it was ok as it got the correct scores and i got no errors , then if i go to run any game or 3dmark06 @ high res + AA+AF i get the driver problem

do u guys think it is a psu problem ??

    WOOHOO

ok i pluged up my backup blue storm 2 psu and i ran 3dmark06 stock settings fine then maxed it out (1680x1050 + AA x8Q + AF x16) and this time that run fine, so i booted COD4 and this also ran fine so i guess my second 850w psu is ****ed again

im gona get a Coolermaster Real Power 850w Modular Power Supply next

    Run memtest86+ overnight http://www.memtest.org
Motherboard or a bad ram stick could be responsible, worth testing since one tends to sleep during the night anyway.

you're not very forward with details so some basic checks:

irq conflicts, temperatures, remove drivers + clean left over junk before installing new once if you haven't done it with cleaning yet, remove any overclocking on any piece of your machine.

-Download the very latest directx build (i don't have vista, the latest dx9 build is november 2007 anyway I think)
-Roll back to a nonbeta driver.
    -Update motherboard drivers.
-Check power supply voltages and stability (with a multimeter, software readouts are often not accurate, if you can't do this try swapping it with another psu and see if the problem persists)

If I think of anything else that might cause this I'll post it here.

I'm having some issues along the same lines myself, try rolling back to a pre 163.x driver. It's my next step anyway, ran out of other idea's.

    edit:
woops just read your last reply lol.. glad you got it fixed :)
Just hope it's my turn soon too.
It's probably the same issue here, sadly I can't afford another psu at the moment, there's not even one available to test the theory with lol. And I don't have a multimeter either.

These errors came along with the 169.XX drivers and alot of people are getting these errors.

It aint no dodgy PSU, overclock or cable problem. Its a driver problem

It is a RAM problem. 680 boards eat it up. I have been through six sets already. Every time the error comes I replace the RAM and I'm good to go until the next time. OCZ has confirmed that 680i plus the needed voltage to run their RAM is the culprit.
