    hi aircool :).

nice to see ya again on here.

i have one questions on the physics card,

does it increase performance or just makes games seem more real?
with more particles and so on.

    thanks

Applications need support of the physix card for it to really give somewhat of a performance boost. Or, it gives somewhat better physics if the game supports it.

Have they realized their idea is a no-go?

I just don't understand their way of thinking. Yeah, it's some great tech, but nobody uses it.

They ought to sell those cards REALLY cheap to get some user base, and to motivate the devs to implement such support in games. Until that happens... nobody knows.

problem is, without ageia, it defaults to your CPU, which is not good at calculating physics like a GPU is. i prefer havoc, cryphysics seems as good but might have been more efeiceint at the gpu level since i havnt seen or even heard of anyones cpu core #2 being used 100% which i think is the core used for physics, i dunno if it changes with 4 cores if it can use 2 cores just for it or not.

thanks guys, been loads of help.

i only wondered coz in hl2, when i shoot those exploding barries.

    my frames just drop

    60 + with out

    20 + with explosions.

so i was thinking maybe it would take the edge of the cpu. give me better frames when the explosions do occur?

so if you can answer that questions, i would be grateful :).

    and thanks once again :D.

The ppu don't increase framerate, buying one thinking that is a mistake. What the ppu can do (for games that support it) is to increase the number of physics calcutions well beyond the capabilities of any cpu currently available, so when for example you have and explosion with 100 particles done by the cpu, you can have the same explosion with 10000 done by the ppu with the same framerate.

An Ageia PhysX card wouldn't help you as it only works with apps that use Ageia PhysX and the Source engine uses Havok physics. The list of games with PhysX support is pretty short. UT 3, Gears of War, Jericho, GRAW, GRAW 2, City of Heroes/City of Villains, Bet on Soldier, Roboblitz and...that's probably it. Ageia's web site has a list, but I'm not leaving out anything major.

you need a better gpu and a cpu for that, i had the same probs it went away with a better gpu and more ram and OC'ing cpu a bit.

thank you soo much guys, your stars :).

    im planning to get a p4 3.2ghz, FSB 800

atm celeron 3.0 ghz 533 FSB.

which is a big improvement :).

and planning to get the 1950pro (AGP)

is this a good card, will this keep the explosions on good frames?

    ^

yes it would be allot better, and 1gig ram more wouldn't hurt.

I would go with the amd route instead of the p4 route if I were you. Or instead get the core 2 duo e6600 prettie cheap now. e6600 overclocks like one bad mofo anyways. runs cool too at stock speeds.
