    retail vs demo performance

just a couple of observations regarding the performance of retail vs sp demo, FWIW:

*) the config files in the cvargroups dir in retail are 100% identical to the same files in the sp demo.
*) the island gpu benchmark yields exactly the same result (obviously with all the same detail/quality/resolution settings) with retail and sp demo. In fact, after allowing the benchmark to make several loops, the results vary less than 0.2% (between sp demo and retail). the only slight visible differences are that r_displayinfo is enabled by default in retail and that disk activity icons flash in the top left.

Ok, I ended up lowering my settings to all medium in DX9 mode.

It still looks quiet good and FPS have shot up through the roof.

Its not playable with all high settings just yet... even in dx9.

Nothing is better then 50+ fps in this game :D

Whether something is playable or not is almost 100% subjective, I'm fine (and so are many others) with 30fps in Crysis (partly due to the clever use of motion blur I would wager) and I would rather have the extra eye candy. But ofc, different strokes and all that. :)

Sheesh, you really have to do that with a GTX?

I run everything at medium (1680x1050 res, no AF/AA) but water set at low (+10fps) and sound at high.

On later levels I have to lower the settings a lot to have it playable.

Can you try everything at high but make sure to disable HDR?

Are you sure? the GTX out performs the 2900XT by alot, and i can play with All high in Dx9 with an average of 35fps. i would think you got atleast the same or more.

7 pages of this discussion and nobody is talking about the game itself. Everyone is blabbering about medium/high details, DX9/DX10 difference, performance etc. Nobody is bloody talking about the gameplay, the story, the twists in it, the fun they're having playing this or whatever pisses them off. Is this better than COD4? Or better than GOW? Or better than Doom2?

Can we finally start talking about the game rather than graphics? Thanks.

I highly doubt one needs an extreme one, good one yes, doubtful of an extreme.Hey im having fairly decent playability here with physics on high on a pair of 5 year old processors.

Because in the case with the DX10/9 multiplayer limitations it actually affects gameplay elements directly.

im guessing its your video card, possibly its just clocked to much and is struggling. i have bugs and glitches if i clock to high. Just drops your clocks abit and see

Everything Cevat states about D3D10 is in future tense. Its quite clearly stated that it will run good, and look great in D3D9 on current hardware, its all in your own quotes.

35 FPS average is not acceptable framerate for me, as I pointed out in many of my previous Crysis rants ;)

At 35 FPS its nearly impossible to precision aim while strafing and jumping in speed mode.

It limits you to a very slow pace in Crysis. With 50+ FPS you can infact run and gun with high degree of precision which opens up a whole new level of enjoyement. This is an FPS after all, not Spliter Cell ;)

As I said, for ME, its very enjoyable gameplay at high FPS even if I have to lower graphics.

For MP, ill probably go to all LOW settings so I can do headshots more effectively.

Its better then GOW, thats a definate.

I cant say if its better then COD4 though...

It is quiet fast paced, but its a very different game from COD4.

because there was no FPS counter to influence our perception of what is smooth and what isnt :)

Thanks for the input OrionRU. Personally I put GOW a lot higher than COD4, but everyone has different taste. Anyone else liking it? Or are you all just taking screenshots and tweaking it?

Now here's a silly question for all the smart guys out there :D

I'm on Hasta La Vista x64 Baby and exactly how do I force Crysis 2 run in DX9 mode ?

Haven't been following the tweaking bit so much till today, so anyone's gonna take a stab at my question ? ;)

    Thanks :D
