Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX APIs.

Anyone knows if this changes anything? Maybe not, its just the same files and same features again with different month in the package name...

    Edit:
OK, maybe I was wrong, it actually might have changed something. This was the FIRST time EVER DirectX setup forced me to restart my computer...

Of course it changed something. They don't make you re-download the same stuff over and over again. DirectX downloads are mainly for graphics cards to be compatible with certain game features from what I know.

    Good stuff. Cheers.

EDIT: Not sure what the deal is here but I had the August update installed and when I went to install this one I got a message stating that I already had the latest version....?

Run DXDiag you should find the latest files in there under "DirectX Files"

That's funny.. I just installed the update, came to 5.2 mb, but no restart after?

Think it all depends on which bits get updated whether a restart is needed or not. Oh and I had the same 5.2mb download. From looking in my System32 folder it looks like these,

    were the files added/updated.

    Doesn't have to restart.
