As the title says, I've just started my first year in college and I just got over $2000 dollars in refund money from some scholarships I received, after all tuition, fees, and books were payed for. And I'm excited as hell, to say the least. Now, some of you might be assuming that with all this free money, I'm probably gonna go out and get myself an 8800gtx or one of the high end quad cores or something. But you would be wrong The computer geek is me is saying that I should, but the more mature side of me is saying that I should save it, as I'm planning to go on to medical school. So this brings me to the point of my post. How many of you in here would immediately order the latest high end video card or cpu, or any other computer related things for that matter, if you were in my position? I'm very curious to hear. I'm also curious as to which members in this forum are currently college students; and what are your majors?
You're in college and already have a 8800gts, go spend a few dollars on a woman and some dinner, the truly enjoyable things in life. Then go back to your studies.
Uhm use it for: Food Rent Heat Beer Bus Passes for life! unless those are paid for, then save. Grad school is farking expensive, in part because you get sick of the college life and want to live like a human. Oh another idea. Season theatre tickets if you have a great theatre there. Good change of pace. You get to feel like more than a college student cultural and shiat Good for dates -- a lot classier than the college dive.
That's fascinating. Really. Unless you plan to gimme some of that, I don't care. Seriously...nice score. Use it to pay off your loans or bills because racking up debt sucks.
lol... I've actually never used a credit card nor do I even currently own one. And thank you guys for throwing some ideas out, even though I didn't specifically ask for ideas for what to spend the money on, hahah. but I might consider some of them
treat yourself to something special for doing well in school(if you are)and put the rest away for a rainy day.2g doesnt go far today so be frugal as most have suggested.
lol.. let's not stereotype here. I'm sure you know what I mean. And yeah, I'm doing great in school, which is why I got the scholarships I'm most likely going to save this money though, as I already have spending money from my job at the university I'm attending. I guess what makes it so tempting to spend is the fact that it was free lol.
Create a budget. Put most of it away in a high yield savings and either invest the rest or impress some ladies. I'd shoot for the ladies. They will run you dry though which is why you are going to put most of that green away and tell them you "lost it". My girlfriend is trying to get me to get a $150 cockatiel. Luckily I'm broke as **** because of school and living costs. Who would have thought using the word lucky and broke would make so much sense?
Don't listen to none of these guys go to strip club every friday night and have fun you're a big boy now and big boy have need....lol
The first part of my scholarship was $3200, and that was gone pretty quickly. It's not exactly alot of money today (atleast not around here) so it wasn't much to save. Though I used quite alot of in on pratical things like paying rent in advance and such. If you can you should probably save it. Always the wise thing to do.
Well congrats! Last year I got a tax refund of over 4000€!!. I still have it in my saving account because they've got a year to claim the money or a part of it back incase it was a mistake. After that it's mine! I think I'll save it up for when I really need it, or for a nice long travel through South-America or whatnot when I'm finished studying.
CCs are fine so long as you are a) responsible? b) aware of your bills and charges so that nothing comes as a suprise. c) not spending money that YOU DON'T HAVE. Unfortunatley, for most people out there, they can't follow the above criteria, and end up in the hole in the process. Don't get me wrong, lots of people can't help it, and their credit cards are the only thing from keeping them from bankruptcy. Buuuut then there are lots of other people that don't flex ANY self control, and to them I say, enjoy your interest rate
