Does anything exist between Cable and T1? I posted a thread about T1 a while back, but it ended up as a failure because in our area T1 is very expensive and just a wee bit too much for us (I think cheapest was like $289 a month). Is there anything better than Comcast 6mb cable that's cheaper than T1? Speaking of which, is Verizon FIOS any good? I think it was *supposed* to be 4mb dedicated fiber, but in the EULA it says it's shared based on who's on your connection/the line. Did I read it wrong, or is it any good/better? LMK please, Comcast is a little flaky at times, speeds drop like flies when we pick up the phone (because it's on the same line). Other things too...
T1 = Symetrical 1.544mbit/s. Thats 160 Kilo bytes per second down and up. Not much over your current set up. I take it you want the upspeed What isp's offer what you want, and what kinda packages do they have. It wont be fibre at those speeds unless recently they've been at your roads laying it, cable i meerly a gloryfied phone line.
T1 is slower than cable. (upload no) If you had ADSL (2 +) Then Yes you could have a deal better than cable. Even DSL has plans better than cable im sure??
US DSL is slow as ****. I'll look into fibre a little more later. And speak of the devil, they actually are laying it down where I live, one of my neighbors just got it.
So wait... is the fibre worth it? Because I'm not sure ADSL2 is offered in the US and basic DSL sucks balls XD
Comcast :/ We've slowly lost faith in them. EDIT: Ooh poopy, FIOS is not offered here atm, only to my neighbor 0.o. Any other options?
Leech fibre off your neighbor. Nothing else offered over DSL/Cable is going to get close the the quality of a good fibre connection. /I miss my old apartment with fibre
Is there another cable company or faster cable? I tried searching the area and I found a provider called Cox, but I think they use the same lines as Comcast since they listed "Power Boost" in their description.
or you could see if ur telco could bond 2 loops together. for a connection that is sometimes called Gshdsl. It's two copper pairs bonded to another pair. and if you go with a local telco that doesnt cap their speeds, but provide a best offer service you could get 30 megs off that copper.
Comcast is disrupting bittorrent seeding, and has an unknown bandwidth limit (if you go over it, they cancel you) FIOS is much better, and Verizon is much more p2p friendly
He can't get it because it's only offered down the street oddly enough at my house He said he's gonna call em... thier FIOS website looks and acts like poop.
Fibre > xDSL > Cable xDSL really does own, but in the US after reading throught many pages of forums (googled) it does seem US xDSL does suck.
arg the worst Provider in Aus, just upgraded there cable to 30 mbit.... (they count uploads :S) People are connecting at about 38 sync speed.....which is basiclly about 4.3 MEGS a second!!!!
Bump. Can anyone find me a decent provider in Baltimore? FIOS is unavailable to me at the time and my cable is getting slower by the day. I counted 5 hours of actual downtime today and it's really choked at almost all times. Please help I'm unsure what to get and I don't know if anything is there. I don't want to be without internet but I don't want a provider that's slow as hell either.
It is here. Everything seems to either be DSL and slow, or Cable and the same or slower and more expensive, or Fiber and unavailable... or T1 and $100-200 out of my price range. God this sux.
