*Raises hand*. That would be me. I followed mist3r_q here from the 'land of denial' which is CL support. I have a SLI board (with SLI vid cards too), and am more than anxious to see if there is a squeal of death on these cards. I will be taking a look-see at their return policy and monitoring this thread for a time. I hope to have these issues behind me!

Well, currently there are alot of Preludes on on the street and there doesn't seem to be any issues usually associated with Creative X-fi's.

I was wondering: Is the Prelude really powerful enough to power a set of HD650 properly? I mean, does the card provide more power to the headphones than a high end cd-player or dvd-player? Does the Prelude provide more power than the ordinary X-Fi cards?

Yes, I was wondering this too, I have an HD600 (almost the same thing).

44% volume with unamped dt880 (250 ohm) is very loud imo.

i will test a custom cmoy amp soon though. comes quite handy since just build a crossfeed filter and when using it, 88% is what i need to get decent volume. then bass is pretty weak as well.

Well, truth be told the outputs of a Prelude are HOT @ 5volts. If you have high demand headphones you should always use a decent headphone amp in my opinion.

anyone know about that problem in that other post of mine? Why my z5300 rear channel must be plugged into "side" Prelude jack to function in 5.1?

if they Prelude is anything like the X-Meridian with it's outputs it'll be more than enough to amp higher demanding headphones :)

I run a pair of Grados through it and it sounds like no other :D

because that's where the rears would be in a 7.1 configuration it's not "an error." It's the same way on the X-Meridian

While we are at it, I'm using a low end (I think) Technics receiver with my HD650 and X-fi. Would the sound be considerably better with a good dedicated headphone amp? Can you recommend any with a good price/value ratio?

If you're using a receiver then that may be enough...

Currently own a XFI Xtrememusic. Have 4.1 Klipschs speakers running Vista 64 with 4 gig ram.

I do a lot of gaming, and listen to a lot of music and dvds on the computer. What kind of differences will I hear if I upgrade to a AuzenTech soundcard?

With the Xplosion be a good upgrade?

If you already own a X-fi X-Music you might aswell go for the Prelude..
If you are a big gamer the X-Plosion is not a good card for you as it doesn't support newer gaming audio technologies. Your using Vista so you will only get STEREO sound from that card when gaming.

Newegg seems to be the highest when it comes to price on this card. What a shame........

Ill look there. You think the upgrade is worth it then?

    Currently have:
    Creative X-FI Xtrememusic
    Klipsch 4.1 speakers

Deciding on which would be a better upgrade:
Replace the XFI Xtrememusic with the Auzentech Prelude OR
Replace the Klipsch's with a pair of 5.1 Logitech Z-5500?

That would be up to you. People are saying they notice alot of difference over a X-Music. You have to make up your mind...
