Here is another >200 maya score for a modded 2900XT
    http://www.hardspell.com/english/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=1363

really, am I the only one being way more impressed by v8600 than by v5600?

I know it's 240 euros more, and 50 more watts at idle, and 150 watts at peak, but it's twice as powerful...

yes, I know the results for HD2600 are great, but they were achievable before, it's just a matter of saving 50 euros, and doing without the higher power consumption and heat disipation of x1950

ok, here they also test a modded HD2600XT and they get much better results than with HD2600PRO, still not as high as those of HD2900XT but at a lower price, power consumption and heat dissipation...

    specviewperf 10 results for maya-02:

    HD2600pro: 31.31
    HD2600XT: 32.45
    HD2900XT: 29.31

    HD2600pro@FireGL: 97.06
    HD2600XT@FireGL: 145.67
    HD2900XT@FireGL: 194.02

can somebody confirm those nice 2600XT@FireGL results?
(I'll try to find more results on the internet, but it's always better to have results from forum members)

I guess that programmable ring-bus controller really does make a difference when it comes to drivers. Unoptimized, the HD2900XT gets whooped by the HD2600PRO. If those FireGL drivers aren't yet optimized for the HD2900XT@FireGL (ie. whatever it'll be called), there may be a boost in the score.

Recent reviews (ie. Xbitlabs) have shown the 2900 pulling up between the 640mb GTS and GTX on popular games so it may just take them a bit of time to optimize. Especially in the professional market, it would be very likely that they optimize.

I think the fireGL drivers for HD2900 are already properly optimized

the G80GL already gets is ass badly kicked by R600GL now: quadroFX 4600 and 5600 score 173 and 193 maya-02 in specviewperf9, respectively, according to nvidia's own information:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_11761.html
(those results are from a X6800 based system, a QX6800 might increase them a bit)
(and remember that a quadro5600 is around $3000, against $1900 for HD2900XT@FireGL aka V8600, there's some markup cutting you have to do there to get price in line with performance)

Do you think a 512MB card is a better choice than 256MB ?
    in the case of a 2600XT@FireGl 5600 i mean.
    There are no GDDR4 2600xt with 512MB - only GDDR3 - so may a 256MB GDDR4 card be a better choice than 512MB GDDR3 ?

I don't think 256MB vs 512MB will matter a lot, unless you are working with some insane models or textures

and I know nothing about GDDR3 or GDDR4, I don't think it matters a lot either

    PLEASE help with X1900XT

I've been spending a considerable amount of time trying to find this information, but almost everything I find on Google seems hopelessly out of date.

I would very much like to mod my X1900XT to a V7300 ( I think it is, right?).

Can someone please send me in the right direction with detailed instructions? I've seen a few scrips but don't know how to use them or how the mod process does with up to date drivers.

    THANK YOU!

OK, now that 3Dprofessor has all V3600, V5600 and V7600 articles, maybe we can learn something from their numbers

    the articles are here:
    http://www.3dprofessor.org/Reviews Folder Pages/FireGLV3600/FireGLV3600P1Intro.htm
    http://www.3dprofessor.org/Reviews Folder Pages/FieGLV5600/V5600&C2SBA+P1.htm
    http://www.3dprofessor.org/Reviews Folder Pages/FireGLV7600/V7600Pt1.htm

and the main numbers are these (there are many, many more in the articles):

    cinebench 9.5
    v3600 - 516 - 445 - 823 - 2038 - 5583
    v5600 - 521 - 445 - 826 - 2054 - 5716

    cinebench 10
    v5600 - 2750 - 5191 - 6022
    v7600 - 2735 - 5202 - 6621

    specviewperf 10 maya-02
    V3600 - 111.11
    V5600 - 224.56
    V7600 - 240.18

    specviewperf 10 maya-02 - threads enabled (1-2-4)
    V3600 - 165.01 - 159.91 - 149.91
    V5600 - 200.66 - 197.93 - 189.04
    V7600 - 240.18 - 237.21 - 217.93

    specviewperf 10 maya-02 - another number
    V5600 - 146.34
    V7600 - 216.3

    specviewperf 10 maya-02 - FSAA (0X-2X-4X-8X)
    V5600 - 146.34 - 108.24 - 92.56 - 65.47
    V7600 - 216.31 - 184.55 - 172.18 - 131.53

so there you go, a lot of numbers and still not a clear conclusion, apart from the fact that for cinebench V3600 seems enough: in the first set of maya numbers, V5600 would be nearly as powerful as V7600, but in the second set of numbers V7600 is much more powerful than V5600

not knowing what each set of numbers means, I would just love to have a few more users mod their cards and post their specviewperf numbers here (I'm buying all the stuff for my new PC at the end of next week so please hurry!!!)

I understand your respone. I have also spent much of my life on forums since the early 1990's. Of course, it did little to help me or anyone else.

I had been searching for quite a bit. Oh, I found lots. Fragmented information that usually expected that you had some prior knowledge script alternation or soft modding in general (do I replace the whole script or just the part called [common]?) Hints to drivers and or guides from 2005.
    Thanks but no thanks.

I realize that my X1900XT isn't that current but the latest info always is. I guess I hoped that someone with that info, who was willing to share it, would post a short description. In a month or two I'll upgrade my system to a more current video card. Maybe by then someone will even have made 64-bit drivers now that most of us use or will use 4GB+.

A few hours later and with four tabs open I think I have the big picture. But half of the files I've been advised to use seem obsolete. I guess the trip ends here for me since I still feel a few pieces are missing. Also, my application of choice- After Effects CS3 is not mentioned anyware so I don't know if I'd gain all that much, although I think I should.

If someone with time on their hands know better, feel free to provide me with a few links to the latest files for my video card. I use X1900XT on Vista 32 bit for now.

    Hi Markefors

    * no 64 bits yet; I also want to put 4 or even 8 GB in my new system, but I'd rather mod and stay in 32 bits than go 64bits and stay unmodded

    * I'm not sure modding will help aftereffects much; rendering times will stay the same, that's nearly sure; as for previews, no idea

    * there is not a fully comprehensible and up-to-date guide for modding your card; the best I know of is this:
    http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=227800
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=196557&highlight=step
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=129197
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=172822&highlight=step
If you make it work and have the time, you can post a new guide, and we will all thank you and appreciate it

    * don't mess with AlecRyben, please; remember: you have 2 posts, he has 7500; half of the last 3000 must be of that "you fukkin use the search button, idiot" kind, but it wasn't always that way (he did make the guide on the third link up there), maybe it's just because every two days someone new comes in and asks the same question in a randomly chosen thread (I think I also did it, by the way)

If there were no thinking people like AlecRyben (which are unfortunately in minority here), this forum woud simply die. And it is too sad that you don't understand it.

And I sure hope it wasn't for me. It's a pretty non-contributing comment.

I would like to thank you NormanBates for the links. I'll look into it, although I'll most likely wait until I get a HD 2900XT.

The new drivers that are out for the 2900- do they still force you to go via Rivatuner or are they installable "as is"?

PS. And by the way. Like I wrote in my last post- I understood his comment, so there was no need to explain anyting. Unwinder even falsly insinuates that maybe I didn't understand after all. The whole point is that there is another option where you get tired of answering the same questions over and over again: don't.
Alright. I rest this microscopic case here. This post is not intended to be inflamatory.

I think the HD2X00 softmod drivers can be installed "as is" (they are not a txt script, but a 70mb compressed file)

It would be really nice if someone could try these cards in Maya "reality" compared to Quadros, as these numbers are SpecView "synthetic" benchmarks and the results could be manipulated with drivers / better performance.

    Hi there,
I am just into buying a 2600xt based card. I found no info in my searches about the cards that FireGL driver mod will work with. Should I go for Asus 25MB DDR4 or MSI 512MB DDR4, powercolor or ... ?
    Thanks

I'm in the same situation as you
I read some review about 2600xt cards

gddr4 cards are a bit faster than gddr3 but with a greater power consumption ! i think the gain isn't relevant - so i would stick to a gddr3
then the question of 256 or 512MB - well as another forum member said in this very same thread - 256MB should be enough unless you are working with "insane models and textures" ;-)

personally i'm about to buy a Asus EAH 2600XT 256MB GDDR3 - it has a good silent cooler
but i will wait a bit until i find some review from some forum member about this 2600xt modding
