    Nice job!

That is an incredibly informative, comprehensive guide. Thanks for taking the time to do it. That will no doubt help alot of people and maybe curb some of the "which card should I get: ATI xxxx or GeForce xxxx" posts.

The only thing I can think of to suggest would be this: It may be a little too much info for some people, and could overwhelm them. Perhaps an additional list "for dummies" could be included below your "bang for buck" section. A single list that lists every card, ATI and Nvidia simply by their performance, with no "extra" specs.

    Something like this:

    7300GT
    8500GT
    X1600 Pro
    6600GT
    X800GT
    etc.
    etc.

    Thanks!

I will think about it, but no promises.

15 September 07: More correctly specified performance of 8800 GTS 320MB and R5X0s which are ALU heavy (e.g. X1900 XT). Added: “Shader heavy games” section under R5X0 and some games which require SM3.0 under NV4X’s SM3.0 section. Updated: “Bang for Buck” cards.

Although there are a few small things in there I disagree with I can't prove them wrong without digging up a bunch of benchmarks... that and I forgot all but one of them by now, lol.

Anyway you wrote that the 6800 XT AGP can be unlocked to 12x1/6vp. I used to have one of these once upon a time and I know for a fact they can be unlocked to 16x1/6vp. Yep can go from 8 to 16.

I really need parts for my rig,I reside outside of the U.S,way out...is there a way I could get any of you dudes to buy PC parts for me after I transfer the cash to them(did this the last time, but the dude who helped out is M.I.A) then they ship the parts to me-I will pay for all shipping costs plus any tip they might want.

    Corrections

    ummm.... some corrections are required

    1. the 3870 X2 has 640 unified shaders not 320
    2. the crossfire technology no longer requires external cables and
    3. with the hybrid crossfire u can put any 3XX0 cards in crossfire mode and u dont need a master or a slave card
