    I was able to play @ 1600x1200 16xAF 4xAA on setting "3" ( default ).
On setting "0" I have to use 2XAA 8xAF in order to get the same performance.

I prefer setting "3". Not just because the framerate is higher, but also because the quality at far distances is much much better. You don't really notice the lack of good shadows in such a fast-paste game, but you do notice the lack of details on the background ( hills, etc... ).

    Setting "0" has:
    - Better quality at short distance
    - Less quality at far distance
    - Performance drop

    Setting "3" has
    - Less quality at short distance
    - Better quality at far distance
    - Good performance

Out of which of these would give you the best performance?

Have you eaven watched the screens, have you eaven read the info underneath the screenshots?

On the screens you see that the highest framerate is on setting "3".
AND I also wrote info where it clearly sas that 3 gives best performance.

well i don't really see the big diff in IQ between method 3 and 0. As i look at the strogg walker in mode 3 it looks abit more detailed to me.

Value of 0 has much clearer textures, and it's bit more dark. Difference isn't so big in terrain, but indoors, and in concrete filled places it's very clear.

It only looks more detailed because it's darker and the details are not so visible anymore. I don't think it's worth it. I rather have high-fps all the time. I also prefer it a little brighter. If I want the Doom3 indoors, I will play Doom 3.

Hm i looked it again, yes mode 0 looks a bit darker than mode 3, i would use mode 3 coz apparently gives a better fps boost than mode 0. And mode 0 is default setting.

    Actually, Mode 3 is default.

LOL ups ,yea just saw that. I wanted to re edit my post. :look:

So how much of a performance loss are we talking about in mode 0? (10fps or more??)

    13-27%. It depends...
In "empty" area's the framerate will only drop 5-15%, but in area's with lots of details, the performance will drop 20-30%.

Just compare the framerates in the screenshots ;)

I'm at a loss at whether to keep it at setting 0 and back to 3.
I'm gonna see if I can compromise with 1 or 2.

id go with method 2 as it seems to have more detail in the foreground aswell as background, as long as the fps stays above 60 id be happy with method 2.

Values 2 and 1 will be removed from the game, leaving 0 and 3 the only options.
