Oh yes, America the horrible. Maybe nobody took into account that America is still one of the few places in the world where a 19 year old kid (that would be me) can start a company with a great idea and in 6 months be making more money than his parents. By the time I'm 25 I will be able to retire (if I so desire). Our CFO and his minions show a consistent growth rate of our company and a net profit of 1.2 million per month in 2011.

Am I trying to boast? No way, I live in an extra bedroom at my friends house until I can find an apartment that I like up here in Seattle, but my point is that America and our "horrible" capitalist society is here for a reason and that the "American Dream" still lives, no matter how hard people try and destroy it.

Sure, not everyone has a success story like me. But does that really matter? This is survival of the fittest my friends, and I have proven that I am fittest. I don't even want to hear about how my daddy and mommy probably have money and thats how I got into this position, because they don't. In fact, in about 2 months they are moving up here and I'm going to support them. We got an initial investment of $10,000 from a business professor in my friends school and used that to start our company.

Whats this all mean? Am I some arrogant jerk that wants to tell his success story? No (well I am arrogant but thats not the point of the thread :) ). The point of this post is that you can say all you want about the world, that its horrible and you can't get a leg up, and that USA is leading the forefront in impoverished people because nobody here can just get a head of "The Man", but the bottom line is that it just isn't true. As long as there is still a country in this world where you can do what I've done, and the government not only accepts it, but ENCOURAGES IT, then the world is not so bad.

How does the USA encourage people like me pulling ourselves up and starting a company? Low business taxes, scholarships for college students running small businesses, I could go on and on at all the opportunities the US government gave me and my friends to start this business.

I'm not entirely sure, but there are other places in the world with free market economies where you can do the same thing, correct? Basically, entrepreneurship is the only true way to improve your condition. You cannot do it through the government, socialism and communism time and time again do not work. You can do it to some extent with a good degree, but then you have to be able to pay for college and rely on getting a good job.

Which is why I believe that if more of the world accepted a free market capitalist economy that you would see people everywhere pulling themselves up out of darkness and poverty with business. But, what about the people that aren't able to pull themselves up? Survival of the fittest. Yes, I know that sounds incredibly harsh. Yes, there will be countless incredibly sad stories about families that cannot make it, and hey, if you are in the type of position to help them, by all means please do so. However, it is not the role of the government in my opinion. And in the end, the world will be better for it.

Dude, like calm down. No one is attacking you or anything. If all was fair, and the opportunity to rise through the business world was that simple, alot more would. Not everyone has the opportunities you have.

The government taxes people, so its important for them to give back. There are people who live in poverty who would disagree with you.

My opinion is that we can't make this world better, all the governments in the wolrd are the same, they collect money from the taxes etc. Am living in Cyprus and the Price for Unleaded 95 which i use for my car is 0.60 cents:
0.60 CYPRUS POUND [CYP] is 1.0059 EURO - [EUR]
0.60 CYPRUS POUND [CYP] is 1.3596 U.S.A DOLLAR - [USD]
A simple example. No one is interesting about the good of this wolrd. The politicians are sitting on a big fat chair and they get their fat salary. I don't know guys the things are really bad:(

Another example. About computer parts, everything are TOO expensive!!!
A 8800gtx is around 400 cyprus pounds, If you compare it with USA you will say wow, i will travel in summer to USA to visit my uncle, i would buy 2 evga ko AC3 edition around 450cyp and here i can buy only one with that money and a crappy brand.

My Opinion and a light from the country am living

Cheers guys, This is very good thread

Sorry about the incredibly long post, I'm passionate. I know that a lot of people disagree with me, hell, I would have disagreed with myself a few years ago. Times change though, and now I think the way that I do. Maybe I got lucky, who knows. But I do think that the world still is a place worth living in as long as there are ways to improve your condition. I know some people have no way to improve their condition, thats why I wish more countries would adopt a capitalist society like the USA. Oh well, its just an opinion in this case. This isn't one of those arguments where I can prove my point. All I can do is speak from past experience and offer up my thoughts, but in the end I could be no more right than you are.

Generally at the end of each 'flush', the toilet bowl is lovely and clean & fresh. Perhaps its a good thing. Maybe it needs a good flushing ...:p

You certainly have a point. There are imho a lot of people who whine about the sorry state they're in, without trying to do anything to get out. But pure survival of the fittest is not a society I would want to live in. For example, one of the causes of WW1 was that the market plummeted, and lots of people where in a sorry state here in Europe, which caused insane people like Hitler to rise to power. In the seventies and eighties of the last century there were even more unemployed people than in 1929-1939, but because of a welfare system, the damage done wasn't that bad at all: No insane idiot like Hitler could benefit of the desperate and the world kept spinning without another insane conflict. This is not survival of the fittest, and a better society is the result. It's better living for the fittest which I like: the ones who dare to take the opportunities given to them have the chance to a better life, while those that don't can survive without resorting to criminal behaviour, so the society is better also for the fittest, who don't have to live in fear of desperate criminals......... <==ranting, sorry I had to :) I guess I somehow agree with you, but just say it differently....:p
