Hey guys, I am considering a Nvidia for my new Rig.
The 7900 GS are a great deal right now. I really have no basis of comparison so would the GS be on par with say a X1950?
I was considering getting the 7900GT but I was told the GS models are great performers, any comments?
Should I just wait until the DX 10 shift come? I mean when both side start bringing out more DX10 cards?
I am using tome VGA charts for comparison and it seems the 7900 GS is not as fast as a 1950 PRO- I am mentioning it becasue this card was my first choice.

    I have my 7900GS overclocked @ 545/1450 and it outperforms a 7900GT

I am not sure, I am talking with everybody I know. I haven't even decided is I am gonna go Nvidia or ATI yet. I just know I want a nice GFX card for my new Conroe rig. These cards should be fine for a 6300 conroe right? I mean I won't bottlekneck anything will I?

See thats another thing I am in Canada. OK I will use a convertor.
It says 130.985 GBP, that would be my top. which is $300 CDN
can't go over. Also no OC'ing.

I have a CRT that can do high res BUT my LCD can only do 1024 X 768. I am gonna be buying a new 19" LCD though.

I won't OC the COnroe right away. I will be in heaven with tht CPU anyway. It woul d be just my luck I would OC the chip and fry it..$220 down the drain. No thx it's a fast chip on it's own. Maybe after I use it for awhile I'll turn up the clock speed other then that I don't tempt fate.

7900GS's are fairly cheap in Canada right now and most OC like mad, mine scores 12k in 05 which put it on par with an X1900XT according to that graph...

    Good day,

Wait a bit longer, the new mid-end geforces 8600gt/ultra are coming: these cards will be more powerfull than the earlier mentioned geforce 7900gs/gt, since these new generation videocards have more shader pipelines; the geforce 7900gs has only 20 shader pipelines and the 7900gt has 24 pipelines, while the geforce 8600 ultra has 64 shader pipelines and the gt version got 48 shader pipelines; Also this time the 8600 series cards have a 256 bit memory interface, unlike the current mid-end geforce 7600 series videocards which only got 128bit memory interface!

I am also a little surprised that the price for the new generation 8600 cards aren't very high: the 8600 ultra costs around the 199 us dollars and the gt version costs around 149 us dollars!

edit: the 8600ultra is coming out in 3rd Q 2007 and the 8600gt in may 2007

    Good luck!

Ya know I was seriously thinking of getting a 7900GS, I'm not going to be going to vista right away, but that 8600Ultra looks awesome!
