Unlocking pipelines or shaders on a X1950 PRO AGP

I'm getting one of these in a couple of days just need a new PSU first. Funded partly by my X800XL which got £80 thanks to eBay! I was just wondering if their was anyway to get more from the card apart from overclocking?

Lol every since the X8** series and the 68** series people are still thinking cards will be able to unlock pipelines. Nividia and Ati have learned from there mistakes and are no longer allowing this because all it does it cause them to lose profit.

Thats why Ati began to laser cut and die lock the X850pros.

 

No, and don't expect much from overclocking either, the vram on the X1950's is almost maxed right out of the box. This being said it's still the second fastest AGP card money can buy so you'll have fun with it regardless. I only say "second fastest" because the lucky few who laid their hands on a 1900 GT say it overclocks to higher speeds than the 1950 Pro and benchmarks better due to lower latencies. But I don't think anyone would notice the difference in games anyway.

 

you cant unlock these cards because there is no other card that has the same chipset.

X1950pro = RV570
X1950XT = RV580+
X1950XTX = RV580

all the X1950's have different chipsets

 

I thought the RV570 was simply a RV580 with a few laser cuts?

 

Funny thing about what you say is that o/cing 1950pros on the mem is actually possible and quite ez if you know how properly cool some vrms and mem.

2nd 1900GT even w/ extreme overclocks barely catches up to 1950pro performance and does not surpass it. And that can only be done with the rev1 gts that allow you to raise the voltage.

Your biggest mistake in your comment would be the fact that there is no 1900GT agp cards.

 

Sorry, you are right. A while ago I had read a thread relating to a comparative review of the 1900 GT vs the 1950 Pro and ever since then I had assumed that both were AGP cards. I didn't know either until very recently that there were PCIe 1950 Pros, I thought this model line was exclusively AGP a la 7800GS. In the review both cards were tested as is, with stock cooling, and the oc'ed 1900 GT (sorry, don't remember which version) came ahead of the oc'ed 1950 Pro. The gist of the matter was that the vram chips used on the 1950 Pro could not be pushed much beyond their stock clock with the stock cooler, which if I recall well is the same as the one on the 1900 GT but having never seen a 1900 GT in the flesh I can't be 100% sure. The problems with OC'ing their 1950 Pro that many members of this forum have seem to indicate that there is indeed a lack of headroom with the vram chips used on that card, at least with the stock cooling.

Just a note, the RV model is the 80nm fabrication process of the 90nm R580 cores. I think I understand why he asks that because since it's a scaled down core it may have some sort of similarites with the R580 cores.

No there is nothing to unlock on a x1950pro. It is using everything the GPU has. The x1650xt is a different story. the x1650xt actually uses the same GPU as the x1950pro, but part of it is disabled. But it's unlikely that anything can be unlocked on the x1650xt either...

 

RV570 is a native 36 ALU chip. There aren't any shaders to unlock.

 

I think I just had an epiphany. Pro means "not a chance" and XT means "what the heck try your luck"

 

*cough* x1950XT =R580 *cough*. ummmm the x1950XT has a r580 core. i had one of these cards till i died and the next 2 died and both has r580 cores for sure. and dont but a saphhire x1950XT video card they suck. i know some one thats been throw 4 now and i went throw 3 before going to a x1900XTX

Do you mean just don't buy a Sapphire brand 1950XT or don't buy a 1950XT at all? Personally I don't know if 1950XT(X) has stability issues, I bought a 1900XT even though it was $20 more (at the same store) because it's been on the market long enough so that if there had been serious issues with it, it would have been known by now. I certainly don't regret my purchase.

 

I have a sapphire X1900xt 256mb that i bought last year that haven died. maybe that person got a bad one. and then I not having any problems with my sapphire x1900xt

Perfectly working here, very fast in every game, near to 6k in 3dmark 06 with cpu stock (haven't tryed with overclocked and ram dual channel)

IT is a very good card.

and do not blame sapphire, it is one of the best (if not the best) ati manufacturers.
NEVER had problems with theyr cards
