I cannot hear the footsteps of players unless they are *very* close to me, about ten feet or so i'd say. I'm using Medusa 5.1 headphones and can hear gunshots, grenades, etc, very well from all directions, but never footsteps, except my own, of course. Others say they can easily hear footsteps and they don't have their volume very loud. They are audible if I turn my sound up, but then gunfire is painful. I've tried playing with stereo sound and have the same results. Has anyone experienced this and do you have any suggestions?
hmm ... I've read that some people hear their footsteps louder after some updates. But I think that the way you hear it (~10 feet) is normal. There is a way to turn the volume of footsteps up ... but this would be kind of cheating.
You can turn up the volume a lot an hear them from ~20ft, but really that's it. If someone's silent walking or crouching, you can't hear them at all either.
CS:S fotsteps are much quieter than cs1.6. They want it to be realistic, so you have to turn your volume up so loud that you get realistic hearing loss from gun fire in game. *sarcasm* But anyway its another reason why I hate cs:s.
Mmhm, not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the help. I always thought I was at a disadvantage but I guess not.
try setting the audio in css to "Headset". if that dosnt work, fidget with your sound drivers and set that to a narrow config
