Finally nailed a new position at Bestbuy. I am finally done with the sales floor work and backroom work and now am considered a home theater install guy. Now i can finally get some experience in something i enjoy. Just wondering about any tips of the the trade my fellow gurus can offer me to make my experience go a lot smoother.

Just self employ yourself and run a Computer Repair and Build. I do that in my town cause I tried working under people but it was the craps lots of them had crappy wages and bad morals so I had enough

Haha. Man, that is so true. Everytime they make a sale they always have to hit you up on the warranty. 'Hey...for $dollars, if you screw up and break it...we'll replace it for you for free no questions asked'. Always cracks me up  :p

Of course, I've been in both management telling sales people to do that, and in sales trying to make the extra commission from it and to keep the boss happy...so I can't be too tough on them for asking. I just smile and say 'no'. Stores do that mostly to pad thier profits though to help their margins. I forgot just how much of a margin increase it is, but I do remember it being quite sizeable as stated a while back in a published report about Best Buy (I know it is in the furniture business with the fabric protection as well).

Funny that you mention that now because my new business cards just came in the mail a few minutes ago. I do desktop publishing at officemax but this on the side:

Ugh, I worked at Best Buy for about 7 months doing computer repair for the Geek Squad and I gotta tell ya, it can really suck. It's mostly based on what kind of coworkers you have, since you're usually in such close proximity with 'em. The customers get extremely frustrating as well, obviously. I think it's an acquired talent for people to actually like working at Best Buy.

Then again, maybe I was just at a bad location. It was the West LA store, #109. ;)
