My system; Pent 3 700 , 256 ram @100 mhz... At1024x768 and 1280x1024, How much faster is the MX than a Voodoo 3 3000 , both at default clockspeeds? What about overclocking capabilities of both?

lool...voodoo 3 3000 gets its ass kicked even from tnt2-a (ga-660..overclocked of course) and the mx is a serious challenger for v5500, not for v3000
as for overclock....mx is much better for overclock, th v3000 cant be overclocked much without a cooler because it hangs...and even so, overclocked is very unstable
conclusion : mx is waaaay better than v3000

Hmm nice informative reply to his question. lol. Answer for it is more likely that the MX will help you in a few areas. First I would ask what games do you play? The only AND I REPEAT ONLY!!!! game that I have noticed my 3000 unable to handle at 1024 x 768 is Asherons Call. The limited 16mb of memory results in white textures in that game. Ohh well Deus Ex had a few times that it dropped to a crawl but there was only 2 that I recall. Otherwise the game ran perfectly. I dont play Quake 3 as it is nothing compared to games that came before it. UT, TF, CT, etc.
That said I am considering a MX card. Because I want a faster card for my computer? No. But I am purchasing a video card for a second computer anyways. And I have heavily considered the mx or the ATI Radeon. Radeon is better from what I hear, faster than Geforce II GTS in high res 32 bit and not a bad price, Around $150 from pricwatch for the DDR card, but I also hear there are lots of issues with certain games like Asherson Call for the Radeon. So I can get me a cheap MX to tide me over till something really impressive comes out. Like 60fps FSAA at 1024 x 768 or a game that ACTULLY LOOKS BETTER BECAUSE OF T&L!!! SHEESH!!! Games that use T&L now run plenty fast enough without hardware T&L. So come on developers, give us a MMORPG that has the character graphics of Soul Caliber.
Ok sorry for my rant. ) But back to the point. First are there games you are noticing problesm with? If not then ask yourself why you want to upgrade?

mx is the way to go t&l is a key factor. unless you go for radeon 32mb sdr. it has the the features to wipe them both out.

I went from a V3 2000 to a MX.....get the idea yet?
Speed wise? on my computer Duron 785(oc) with 128 pc133 all games run at 1200+ res without slow down, yes even Quake3 with all features on.
With my Voodoo I had to run at 800 max, and sometimes 640 !
With FSAA on I still run Quake 3 etc at around 800 or 960 res.
The MX is at least 2 times the speed of a Voodoo 3. Really even if you are a Voodoo die hard fan like I was you will be amazed a the value of a MX

Lol all I know is that I would get the MX over the V3 in a heart beat lol no questions asked, just due to performance and longevity, those are key reasons that its crushes the Voodoo 3 in plus its clock speed i believe is 240, if im not mistaken or something like that. And the MX crushes the Voodoo 4 and competes w/ the 5, why would you wan't to compare it to a low end card like a voodoo 3?

Am I retarded, or is it possible that I had better frame rates in NHL 2001 with my old Voodoo 3 3000 than with my new nVidia GeForce 2 MX?? It seems like the Voodoo was faster!! Maybe its my 500Mhz P3, its runs as fast as a 3 pack-a-day smoker after a 12 mile marathon run

Tom, im not familiar with the game NHL 2001, but does it have Glide support? If it does, than it is very possible that it ran a little faster on the V3. Glide supported games blaze on Voodoo cards. UT is a good example of that.
