"Network Cable Is Unplugged"

today i switched my nics setting from auto negotiation to 10mb/fullduplex and noticed that it would pop out a bubble in the systray saying a network cable is unplugged when it's not my nic's a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
never had this problem before, i searched all around google and found nothing.

If you take a look at your network cable, does it have 4 or 8 wires running through it?
Cheap Cat5 cables sometimes dont get fully pinned out, which could be your problem, or at least part of it.

Errrrr, they all come with 8 cables...... or 4pair.

Not all of them get used at 100MB though, only 4. If you are running GB Ethernet then it uses all 8 wires.

I have never ever come across a wire that only had 4 wires in it.
If you have, then you must be buying some really dodgy networking cable.

Why did you switch it to 10Mb FD? Just leave it as autoneg.
It'll pick 10Mb itself.

If it's still not working, try actually checking it is plugged in, restart both the things that the cable is plugged into.
