Default Getting Runtime 53 error! - 03-14-2004, 06:20 | posts: 1,819 | Location: Ohio, USA

I always get a runtime 53 error when trying to launch the benchmark. I currently have Call of Duty installed in the following folder:

D:\Activision\Call of Duty\....

Anyways I notice that at first it when tries to find the folder... It shows the directory truncated for example:

D:\Activi~1\Call of Duty

So I go to the advanced tab and update the directory, point it too the CoDMP.exe file... it then shows correctly the patch without being truncated. However when I go to run again same runtime error 53.. File Not Found.

Its updated to MP 1.2 and it has one time demo listed.

Could you please help?

I'm almost out the door for work but here's something to try real quick.

The app makes a path file. I didn't notice it until after I was done, but I screwed up and that file is being stored in the wrong place. It doesn't effect how it works, but I wanted it in the CoDBench folder.

Anyway, in the root Dir of the drive you have the game installed to, is a file called "COD_path.ini"

It's just an ascii text file and only contains the location of Call Of Duty. Just open "COD_path.ini" and chance the line to a path for the game folder with a finishing "\". Mine looks like: "D:\Games\Call of Duty\".

That should give you an idea of what to change that line too, and also I'd really love to know what the line says in your file.

Activision or the developer wasn't nice to me and only put a single short file names path in the registry. CoDBench is suppose to assume the long file name path by changing the short filename path. (blah blah blah). I assume if you manually change that file it will work. But, finding out why that line is being written incorrectly on your system might not be easy to figure out. I'll think on it.

Hey - let me know. Thanks.

I had to run back in the house because an idea popped in my head.

CoDBench uses the MP version of Call Of Duty. The single player side just doesn't work for the benchmarks.

Now... if you have never played Call Of Duty Multiplay, your CoD multiplay config file will have never been created. It's custom made depending on your system and does not exist until you launch CoDMultiplay. That file is called "config_mp.cfg". It's located in the "main" subdir of the gamefolder.

CoDBench backs up that file before it starts running because it gets over-written. When you Generate the results later, the backup is restored.

So, my big theory is that you have never started a multiplay game, and CoDBench is getting the "File Not Found" error after you hit the "RUN" button because that config file is not there.

So, to fix it just start CoD multiplay one single time and quit.

Let me know if that works!

This would be my own lack of planning on my part. I need to add a "if file exists" check on the next version.

Sorry. It's funny how that just popped in my head when I sat down in my car.

Yep,

It was because I never launched the Multiplayer before therefore the cfg file wasn't there.

Once I did that the benchmark worked fine.

Thanks Vorpal.
