I plan on buying a 9700 pro. I do very heavy graphic files NOT games. Is this mod worth while?

Thanks,
Joe

Well firstly if you aren't interested in games, then getting a DX9 card is probably not needed. Get a GeForce 4 Ti or similar and mod that. It will give you the best performance for the money and has zero issues with any app. Or get the Quadro 4 version version which is slightly expensive. The newer DX9 cards don't have that much better performance in 3d apps, but cost a lot more.

If you still wan't to get a 9x00 card, then you should be aware that the latest drivers are not supported by this mod. So some apps do have issues. Particularly Maya and (to a smaller extent) XSI. MAX and lightwave work fine with it. The last version supported is 7.93 so check if those are the last certified drivers for your favourite app or you could get problems. The mod does improve performance and compatibilty so it is worthwhile to use if you already have a 9x00 card, but buying one just to mod it is probably not that good an idea.

Also a 9800 pro might be a better choice if you can afford it.

I agree with Gamma.
Keep in mind that it only accelerate 3D opengl based softwares, that means (I understand heavy graphic files in many ways) NO ACCELERATION in Photoshop for instance...
