Help needed on 9800pro to firegl -
02-24-2004, 22:32
| posts: n/a
Got a new 9800pro and want to run giregl drivers, but a bit confused.
I read I need to run a .RTS script, which one for the R350 core, SoftR9x00, SoftfireGl or the overclockinantiprotection ones,
Then which script in the above folder.
After that do I force an ATI firegl driver update from the control panel. Again which series of drivers matches the R350 core, most info seems to relate to the R300. I have the following download from ATI "fireglx1x2t2z1-win2kxp-79341.exe" and extracted to a folder ready.
Many thanks for any help

Just use the freefireGL driver set, this is already patched (7.88 version, 7.93 is also available from same site)

Thanks for the link, but I can't read Russian, so I can't find the other links to newer drivers.
With the Riva tuner, I worked out what card to use, X2 ? plus to use the Unified .rts files, and the anti protection ones, so I have patched some files, but can’t find the FGLpanel files to patch.
Also when going to the device manager to update drivers, I’m unable to find drivers that will install. Think a stage must have been missed, like some windows change to tell to look for firegl and not radion ????
Plus what pci ID value do I use ?
Sorry if this sound a bit disjointed I’m away from my PC at present

Drivers:
For installing you have to either change the device IDs in the .inf file to match that of your card (use the diagnotic report feature of RivaTuner to find the correct PCI device ID for your card.) or manually install the driver. ie don't go the 'search for best driver' route, but the 'i will choose driver' one when the 'new hardware found message' comes up.
PCI ID:
As above, use RivaTuner to find these out. For 9800Pros, it is usually 4e48 for primary and 4e68 for secondary
FGLPanel:
Use the installer patch on the setup.inx file and then install the Panel. Dont reboot ! Now run the 11 antiprotection scripts on the files it installs (usually in program files\ATI Tech.\FGL Panel\) Now reboot and check if both chip and card types say FireGL.

I have success ! managed to load the drivers,
it now reads ATI FireGL X2 AGP Pro…… and dynamic 3D shaded rotation in SolidEdge now works ! Once I got the FireGL panel (it took a a while before I twigged what I was supposed to do ;-o ) to work I could configure it to Solidedge and this solved a line drawing corruption problem.
My 3Dmark2003 score is still same as well……. result !
Not sure how I did some of it ….but got there in the end…
I may not have the primary and secondary display quite right, only found/used 4e48....couldn't see a 4e68
Think I'll write myself some instructions for when I do a rebuild soon.
Many thanks for your help…..
Moral of the tail…. Should have stuck with Nvidia ! my Ti4400 never had these problems !

Better yet, try this... Navigate to your FGL panel folder and change your view mode to 'by date' The files you have patched should all have similar new dates (of when you patched them.) Now just copy and store these files somewhere, and when you install the panel next time, just overwrite the originals with these patched files. Sure as hell is a lot easier then applying 11 patches !
