You know the times when the first SDRAM came out?
This was 10ns SDRAM, and it was called (later) PC-66 SDRAM.
Then the PC-100 SDRAM came out. It was a little bit faster: 8 or 7 ns.
That is the problem I want to talk about:
10ns SDRAM= 100MHz RAM
8ns SDRAM= 125MHz RAM
7ns SDRAM= 143MHz RAM
I was lucky to get my hands on a 64MB PC-100 some time ago. It's a 7 ns SDRAM.
Today these 7ns SDRAMs are sold as PC-133 SDRAM - BUT YOU DON'T NEED IT!!!
When you want to overclock your CPU by overclocking the FSB, I think most of you don't go further than to 120MHz... then the system begins to get unstable.
So, why should we buy the 7ns (143MHz) PC-133 SDRAM, when a simple (and cheap) 8ns (125MHz) PC-100 SDRAM does its job without problems??
Or when you own a SuperSocket7 mainboard and want to run the CPU at 100MHz FSB, you don't need PC-100 or PC-133 RAM, because the 10ns (100MHz) PC-66 RAM does the same job, without problems.
I hate all the people saying "Oh, I need the new, the fast, the good PC-133 RAM, then I can use a higher FSB than 100MHz". That's completely WRONG.

  2. What about CAS2 Latency @ 133 MHz FSB which btw the PIII coppermine does use. And what about asyncronic dataline with the CPU @ 100 MHz and it's memory 1t 133 MHz on all newer VIA boards ??
I can proof my point with benchmarks easily Memory at 133 = faster, way faster ...

    http://sysopt.earthweb.com/articles/latency/index.html
It's right that CAS2 boosts your performance, but the thing I meant is that you don't need to buy PC133 RAM when you only wanted to have RAM that can run at 133MHz...you only need to look for 7.5ns or 7ns RAM.
