Well I'm running a P4 2.6C Ghz @ 3.4 Ghz and I want to go farther. Ya ya I know you guys will say its fast enough but not for me! I need to know how to unlock the Ratio Status on my motherboard so I can amp up the multipliers a bit. Thanks.

uhh .. you can't, lol, I thought everyone knew that the multiplier was locked on P4s, it's been posted over a million times ... and what's up with ur FSB? o.O, 1.04ghz, since the cpu clock formula is FSB X Multiplier = CPU clock speed, so in ur case, you have a multiplier of about 12?, maybe a bit less/more, well let's assume it's 12, so thats -- 12/multiplier X 1040 Mhz/Fsb = 12 480 MHZ, so if you have a FSB of 1.04ghz, then you are running at 12 GHZ, which is impossible ...

LOL in your statement you are refering to core frequency. I am not. You know how the new P4's have 800Mhz FSB, well mine is at 1.04Ghz.

and the 800 is the bus speed btw, ne ways look at this ...so your bus speed is 1.04ghz, not fsb ...

O.o .. you unlocked ur multiplier, belive me .. it's impossible, I mean on my old mobo on that 1.6ghz cpu, I Can see the setting for changing the multiplier in the BIOS, but it does nothing, the CPU just stays on 16, no matter what I change the setting in the BIOS to, ie. when I took that Screen shot, I had set the Multiplier to 24, in the BIOS at least, but it still shows up as 16 .. and np .. srry I seemed like a Pain-in-the-@$$, It's just very early in the mornin, and I am kinda tired ..

Uh, no the new p4 bus's are quad pumped, that's why they're referred to as 800MHZ FSB, 200x4=800. If you set it to 250, you get a 1.0ghz fsb.

Unless Intel (physically) "soldered" the gate, but with the "self-written" software it IS possible.
One need to have a "little-more-than-average" knowledge in computting and electronics.

You appear to be the only one in the enthusiast community with this knowledge... the only time I've heard of unlocked P4s is with engineering samples.

Which multipliers, precisely? The only things you can manipulate are the FSB, memory dividers, PCI/AGP settings, and voltages. In the BIOS at the "AI overclock" setting (or something) under the "jumperless settings" tab there should be a "manual" setting, that should unlock everything that can be unlocked.

so you're saying his FSB is 1.0 ghz?, so his ram is running at 1000Mhz?

Not sure if this is a rhetorical question, but its 250 real MHz, "1000 MHz" in market-ese.... If his memory was running at 1:1 it would then me 250 MHz, or "500 MHz" in market-ese. DDR and QDR speak is exceedingly confusing.... this sort of confusion comes up like once every other week.

the 1ghz is the Bus speed, it's how fast the cpu communicates with other components on the motherboard, the frontside bus speed, which is 250mhz is the speed components on the board are running at, I am very sure the FSB speed and the Bus speed are different things, look at that snapshot I took off Cpu-Z. If the the 1 ghz is not the bus speed, then what is the bus speed? btw. can anyone help us out, or explain in detail ... funkymonkey ... ... anyone there?

FSB stands for Front Side Bus. Its basically the interconnection between the CPU, northbridge and main memory. When people talk about "the bus" they almost always mean the FSB. P4c processors run on a bus speed of 200 MHz, but since its "quad-pumped" it would be as if it were running at 800 MHz. But really, its not.... it runs at 200 MHz no matter how many times you multiply the data rate.
On that pic the FSB is the real MHz speed, the "bus" is the quad-pumped BS marketing MHz... so 100/400. That processor is apparently a 1.6a.

Even if the 800MHz is marketing BS, it still gave the C revisions a rather large leap in performance, allowing them to pull decisively ahead of their AMD counterparts.

Well, actually its the 200 MHz FSB that allowed them to do that, but yeah... The point is that the "800 MHz" part is completely fictional, as MHz is an electronics term that refers to clock pulses per second, and has nothing to do with effective bandwidth. It is fair to refer to it as "800 MHz FSB" just as it is fair to call PC3200 "400 MHz" in that it isn't really misleading in any practical sense, but it does cause confusion such as in this case.
Really, I don't think 800 FSB plus dual-channel gave it more then 10% or so, but when the difference between CPU grades is a whopping 2-4% in total system performance this is actually quite a bit.
