Basic for playing with Dx8-9 (?) -

Hi folks,
I've just got a voodoo 4 4500 pci.
After reading all the sticky threads, I still have doubts... The point is: what(drivers, fixes, whatever) do I really need to start using my VGa to play games such as warcraft 3 frozen throne(using win98se and DIRECTX 8-9) and vice city? I mean, the basic requiriments, 'cause saw some Glide(don't know what it is! =/) things, patches and more patches...
What is a 3dHQ-driver, for example? Didn't know there's more than 1 "kind" of driver... Man, I suck¬¬
I apologize for making such a boring(I guess..) question and for my bad English, heh

If you're using Win9x/ME just grab Omega 1.02 mix driver.
download link
here
Warcraft 3 works fine with 3dfx Voodoo3/4/5 cards (set to lower resolution and turn off most eye candy within game option), but I dunno about Vice City. Check with Vice City readme files whether it support 3dfx cards or not.
Most of those 3rd party driver and 'glide' stuff were to fix compatibility with Windows XP.
F.Y.I 'glide' is another graphic API (application programming interface) just like DirectX and OpenGL, but its propietery and only for 3dfx cards.

Sure you can install DirectX 8/9. It just you wont get all those extra eye candy provided by newer DirectX since Voodoo4/5 cards can only perform DirectX 7 trick.

Hmm, OK... But using 3rd party drivers such as Voodoolizer 1.05.00 Final Win9x-Me 1.05.00 Final ( http://www.voodoofiles.com/type.asp?cat_id=1 ) can I get some extra eye candy from DX9? (This driver supports DX9...)

btw rssv, if you have a powerful enough cpu (500Mhz and above) you'll be able to play wc3 with high details in high resolutions...

Also try using the latest version of 3D-Analyze ( http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/emutnl.htm ) It has some "tweaks" and options for some games.

No. You have to understand directx9 support in driver and hardware is different. What I mean is that you can still install directx8/9 on your PC but since 3dfx Voodoo4/5 cards can only do directx7 in hardware, you still cant get the extra eye candy.
If youre using driver that say it support directx8/9, it just tell your voodoo4 to do whatever it can do (directx7 tricks) and the rest of extra trick that come with directx8 & 9 would be done by CPU (if the CPU were powerful enough to do it e.g TnL process) or completely disable at all (e.g. vertex and pixel shader process)

Got it...
I think I have a powerfull enough CPU clock(AMD 1300MHZ).
So, Aropredator, I guess I can use Analyze-3D tool to help in TnL, right?

Absolutely yes.
And happy gaming bro. Just dont use cheat code in both Warcraft3:TFT and GTA:VC like I do. :p
