Worth It? -

Well, it's been long since I've wnated to get myself a pair of 3d glasses but I never quite got myself there mostly because it's hard to find them in Canada.
At last however the oportunity has come and I can grab a pair of revelator 3d glasses from Elsa.
I know that they are far from new (they've been on the market for a while) and so I'm wandering if I should get them. They are prolly not going to be very expensive I expect at most C$30 and I can get them easilly; so I'm wondering if they are worth it or should I wait and get something better when a new opportunity arises?
Edit: Another question that was on my mind was if they would work fine on my system? I hear they are fully compatible with nvidia vid cards.
Reading some of the posts on this bord has got me drooling so please advise

Well to be honest, i wouldn't try the revelators.
As far as i know they are a bit heavy and do not have the compatibility of other goggles that are in the market now.
I sure like my goggles, and now i use them a lot. And i just love them.
Try eDimentional. I don't wanna sound as if i am advertising or biased, but those are compatible with a lot of hardware and stereo modes, work great and are light.
Only drawback is that if you have the wireless, the battery tends to dry out earlier than expected.

Can you give me an estimate on how light yours are? It's just that the Revelators don't LOOK heavy + it says they only weight 30g? Is that a lot?
I do agree about diferent stereo modes and such. Not being a stereo kinda guy I might be wrong but, I didn't see any options in the nvidia stereo panel besides swithing from page flipped to anaglyph. Do you change stereo modes often? Does that improve some games?
Thanx for your answer, but seeng as how they are going to be pretty cheap and being my first pair of 3d glasses I might still go for them unless someone posts something really bad about them

Well, the eD work for both D3D and OpenGL, don't know about the Elsa ones, some of the first models (speaking in general, not about the Elsa model) could only do D3D i think.
In the nVIDIA drivers you can only change from Page flip to anaglyph. But if you use the E-D activator (from the edimentional site) you can also use Interleaved and over/under modes as well.
(In games, the pageflip is used.)

Well It loks like the glasses I was bidding for on ebay have been taken off so... I'm stuck with no glasses.
If anyone knows where to buy 3d glasses in Canada so that I don't have to pay the exorbitant US prices and taxes please post.

Very good glasses, and they send to anyplace.
and the price is good.
Oh and 1 more thing.
The wire version does not need any batteries and in the wireless you might sometimes have trouble starting them.

If you have a bright monitor and you are on that 95% of people that can see Stereo, then you won't.

Quick question:
I'm still waiting for the glasses but i did install the 3d panel now, if I enable stereo here's what happents
All OGL games i tried work -- that is I see a double image rendered on scree kinda interpolated as it should. And the hot key for enable disable works too.
In D3d games however I can't get stereo to start at all, not by hot key not by having stereo on before starting game. Also the medical test image instead of looking interpolated all I see is 2 separate images one on the leaft and one on the right but not interwined. And the the nvidia test "screensvaer" looks like a normal on (one image only).
Right now dling the stereo drivers again cause I changed dets and maby that somehow affected it but i don't think so. Also for some reason theres 2 pairs of stereo drivers 44.03 in the dl section maby last time i got the old ones? (any diff btw?).

Just reinstalled the stereo drivers and same thing: OLG fine D3d Not
Also in the buit in image viewer if I try to view a jps file in stereo mode i again see two separate imges instead of them being interlaced (possibly cause the viewer uses d3d?).
UPDATE: Just read on some forums around and maby the reason i'm ont seing 3d is cause I have no glasses and the dongle in between the monitor and card actually does somthing to the images.
However if someone wants to try and remove their glasses and post their experience i'd feel much better.
Guess it's just the waiting time for my glasses to come thats driving me crazy

Best way is to have the Stereo to activate on hot key and to use the CTRL-T to enable the Stereo function of the nVIDIA card.

I guess what my question was is:
If you have stereo enabled by hot key or otherwise what do you see without the glasses being plugged into your computer at all (no dongle no nothing) like the medical test image for example?
Is it two separate imges side by side or is it two images but interlaced kinda?

Ok I fixed it (downgraded to 44.03dets). Everything is as it should be. Only problem now is that one of the games I was so anctious to try in 3d (Prince of persia 3d) has stoped working with these drivers Well I'll see what I do.
Still waiting for my E-Ds. How long did it take till you received a traking number? I've ordered mine yesterday at 9AM and still nothing!

Yeah I just got a reply from them saying that if I ordered standard dellivery, which I did, then I don't get one and that shipping takes about a week. Guess I'll be waiting.
It's just strange that they don't mension that in their e-mail (they say I DO get a traking number).

IceCube:
I like my E-D glasses allot. I have wireless and wired. I bought some wired glasses for it off ebay. I mainly use the Nvidia drivers for games. It looks like a double image superimposed on one another, but not using lines like interlaced. If your monitor does 100hz refresh it will be pretty much perfect stereo-3d in games. I play Descent-3 allot in stereo. In fact, I have found it looks totally cartoon like in 2d now. I can never go back. But they take some getting used to at first. I like page-flip best because its full screen and there is no flicker with a decent monitor (100hz refresh like I said).
I also like to look at stereo pictures with them. Find some big jps files and it will totally freak you out. Some of them come out of the screen.
I understand your antici........pation! I paid for the cheap shipping also and had to wait about a week.
Couple of tips:
1. Be carefull of the wire. It's easy to forget you have a wire, like if the phone rings (almost ripped my head off once trying to answer the phone).
2. If you wear them for an hour or more at a time like me then you may want to insert a soft piece of foam on the nose-bridge. I used door-jamb insulation because it's soft foam on one side and sticky on the other. Its a minor thing, but it helps for extended sessions.
3. I have heard many people say they tried stereo-3d and just thought it was a novelty and put them away. It does become mundane after a while. You get so used to it. I swear if you use them a little longer it almost becomes mandatory. Games look terrible to me in 2d. Its like a cartoon now unless its stereo-3d. I call it the stereo-3d hump.
Novelty------>mundane/every day stuff----->mandatory to look real
Anyway, I hope you like them as much as me!
Cheers!

Well, they didn't get them to me yet. Oh how I wish they gave me a tracking number. I'm going crazy not knowing when I'll get them. I even prepared everything for them: install a variety of 3d games, anouced that I will dissapear for many hours in the computer room soon.
I even tried to play games with stereo on without glasses!
Note to self: Don't do that again.
They better be here tomorrow cause it's driving me nuts!

Yes! They are finally here. All I can say is that my jaw dropped and stayed that way.
So far I've tried (with not changes to the default besides separation at 100%):
Wolfenstein ET - 10/10 No problems what so ever, even the cursur is fine
GTA3 VC - 8/10 all nice and danddy but crosshair is 2d (tried with 44.03 dets)
Airxonix - 9/10 (cause of the menu) Fun little bugger go to www.axysoft.com to get it
Rayman 3 - 9.5/10 some minor clipping problems but excellent overall
Prince of Persia 3D - 9/10 Some gohsting
C & C Generals 8/10 Mouse is 2D + I couldn't get my eyes to adgust to 3d (might need tweaking)
Eyes don't hurt but after bout 5h of playing I now have a minor headache
What I'm gona try tomorrow:
Morrowind
UT2003
Unreal 2
Rainbow 6
Anything else I think of
