Default Recommended Monitors - 07-27-2003, 16:21 | posts: n/a

What 19 or 21 inch monitors to use for stereo3D.

I want a monitor where GHOSTING is not noticeable. I had an old COMPAQ Q210 21 inch and ghosting was terrible. I replaced it with a new NEC 97F 19 inch monitor. There is not as much ghosting but it is still noticeable. I am conteplating the purchase of a SONY E540 21 inch, any ideas?

Thx

Ghosting is not easy to eliminate and i am not sure its possible.
A good quality monitor with high refresh is what you are looking for.

It is a common misconception that monitor causes ghosting. Infact, most of ghosting is caused by the LCD in the glasses not completely blocking vision from one eye.

For the little ghosting that is caused by the monitor itself, a LOWER refresh rate will give more time for the phosphorus to fade, hence a little less ghosting, but the picture will be more flickery.
Benifits of high refresh rates greatly outweigh those of low refresh rates.

Trust me on this: After playing for a few weeks, you will notice no ghosting at all. Your mind will learn to filter them out, just like it can filter out thousands of voices in a room to tune in to a particular sound.

Also, go for a 21" monitor over a 19", you will really notice the difference :-)

Good luck mate.

he said-"Trust me on this: After playing for a few weeks, you will notice no ghosting at all. Your mind will learn to filter them out, just like it can filter out thousands of voices in a room to tune in to a particular sound."

and that hits the nail on the head - you do eventually filter that stuff out. You still see it I guess, but your mind, and more specifically, your eyes, learn to focus after awhile, which pushes any ghosting to the background.

I think the people who whine about ghosting are sadly just an anal bunch that focus on negative aspects of life, rather than postive points. They aren't happy with anything less than pefection, which you can never have.

Bottom line, if you are at all enamoured with 3D imagery, you will not care about ghosting. If it really is that big of deal, well watch ebay for those i-glasses. You wont get ghosting with those babies, but you will be out 450$ (but I bet they are worth every penny) - bios
