catalyst drivers are the name that the ati developers decided to use.

detonator drivers are the name that the nvidia developers decided to use.

that being said, install detonators for your current card, then the catalyst drivers when you get your ati card.

be very thorough when switching your cards so you don't create any incompatabilities!!

so they basically are just regular drivers that they distribute for those cards? not anything special for overclocking?

Just names...

They have certain properties that are useful for o/c'ing, but they're not especially designed for that. You need a proper tool (like RivaTuner) to do the rest...

I've had a couple of problems with some of rivatuner's function's. When I'm using incompatible drivers for rivatuner I just use it for low level overclocking and the monitor driver wizard in the low level refresh rate settings. Goto the monitor driver wizard and set the refresh rates as high as you can for each resolution that you use then create the file and update the monitor driver with the file you just created. Note: I get an error at the monitor wizard too but I personally do not ignore the edid settings (I choose the edid over the driver, but if anyone feels that the driver would be better?) then I adjust all settings to match my monitor. Also you can't change the name of the monitor that would be cool. I then use nvhardpage for everything else. Although I have a couple of probs with some of the settings in nvhardpage too so I use atuner as well.
