I've been using the latest 4in1 for Via chipsets for some time and i have no problems what so ever.
Sideband and fast writes are both on with no probs.

In XP the VIA4-1's are installed by default so upgrading those drivers CAN improve performance but in generally they're only for bugfixes and compatibility issues (f.e. support of ATA133). So if you're experiencing no problems whatsoever it's highly recommended to leave it that way except for the AGP chipset-driver which is recommended in pretty much every case because people seems to forget that on many systems it only creates problems.. take that in consideration. People first should consider why the drivers where created in the first place > to solve compatibility issues between the Windows OS and hardware especially where the Microsoft drivers aren't giving sufficient support. The potential gain in performance is only caused by a possible better support of your hardware. So when experiencing no compatibility problems I only recommend the AGP-driver (win9x/w2k/XP) which will improve the support of the mobo>videocard interaction and enables FW and AGP4x which is at my opinion the one and only reason why a performance gain is a possibility.

I rest my case.
