Default WinTV-Go card sound problems - 11-27-2002, 22:08 | posts: n/a

I'm trying to get my WinTV-Go card to work with my VCR. The video comes in beautifully, but I'm having sound problems and it's frustrating me to no end. So here's the deal, keep in mind I'm running Win98SE.

I take an audio cable and hook the end with the 2 photo plugs to the back of my VCR, and the other end which is a 1/8" stereo plug into the Line-In jack on my SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 card. I turn on my WinTV program and click the source button and then hit play on the VCR. The video comes through great, but the sound starts to come in full volume and then after a few seconds it stops.

I configured the volume program for Line-In for recording, and configured the WinTV program for Line-In. I played with the options in the WinTV program and selected a few other options instead of Line-in, and the sound comes in like a whisper, and I can't get the volume to go up at all. I crank my speakers up, turn the volume up on my volume program, and turn the volume up to maximum in the WinTV program. Nothing works.

Why does the sound originally start full blast and then go silent, and upon changing settings only reveal itself again but only as a faint whisper?

I really need to get this working, I've tried posting in other forums on other websites, and was recommended this website's forum .

Please help, I have a lot of family videos to back up and I can't do anything until this very frustrating sound problem is resolved. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

EDIT: Another user here suggested I post here rather than the hardware forum. Hope someone knows how to help. ;-)

Is your WinTV-Go made by Hauppauge?

Which one is yours? The PCI or the USB version?

Anyway, I found something that might help. It seems that WinTV-GO needs a separate audio driver to work properly.

Check it here:

Hi sith lord,
I have a WinTV-GO PCI card made by Hauppauge.

The driver/program disk version that came with my card is 4.8, I see in the page you graciously posted as a link here has what looks like a newer version. I have to cross-check this with the Hauppauge page and ask on another Hauppauge forum and get this straight. I don't know why they have several drivers and several versions, because when I look at the version information after installing on my system, these each have different versions from the versions they state prior to installation!

Whew! Most companies just have one big install program and ONE version number. I don't know why Hauppauge does it this weird way. Anyway, thank you, I'll try and post something on a Hauppauge forum regarding this, this may fix the problem, hopefully. ;-)

Do you have one of these cards by any chance?
