The story here. Microsoft is Googlebombing Linux This Week in Order to Sell Proprietary Software That Does Not Run on GNU/Linux
It may look so, I admit it.If anything, mods feel free to move/delete thread. But the facts are out there, like it or not.
The article starts by basically saying that Microsoft is an NSA tool, while it's the only company with the balls to take the US government to court over this. It reads like a conspiracy theory forum post from the darkest places of the Gentoo forums in the early '00s.
That´s just a marketing move by MS so they can say to the public that they care about their privacy... MS, like all other giant companies, sell their data to governments but they don´t want to admit it.
They are actually bound by FISA court decisions (which cannot be made public), to provide data. Not only they aren't getting paid, they have to accommodate the spooks. That lawsuit is everything except a PR move.
They should put the NSA stuff at the end of the article, putting it at the beginning means many like myself roll their eyes and stop reading.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/commandline/wsl/install_guide Microsoft loves linux's software, but they hate that its free (and gplv2) and thus work to make it not free or not exist. who wants to compete with free amir?
Free has nothing to do with it in business. Linux is an amazing kernel, most people have no f*cking clue what it is they use.
I agree the kernel is a wonderful thing aswell, but i do think being able to access the source for free, redistribute it for free, and contribute makes a big difference to alot of people. Maybe not for big companies, but it does matter for people looking to build stuff without many resources. edit: I suppose I should have said that its because its free and better.
So what does that say about Windows? If MS is so afraid of crap, doesn't that mean their own product is even worse than crap?
They don't act as if they are afraid of it, and why would they. Windows is actually a very stable and mature OS that is almost perfectly tweaked for desktop/tablet use. I'm saying this as someone using some of the most "hardcore" Linux distros since 2002. I'm currently running Arch with btrfs snapshotting and a tweaked ck kernel. Linux is a jack of all trades, and most distros lack desktop performance and predictability. Until the I/O model of the kernel changed to something like fq_codel/cake from networking, there won't be much light at the end of the tunnel. Also, if you're a developer, or a company needing Active Directory, Microsoft has the best tools in the industry bar none. At this point their Linux integration is actually gaining them clients. UWP is awesome and you should learn programming
