Hi guys, I hope someone can help me, or there is a solution to the problem.

I have a R9 290, for months I'm trying to get 60 hz with a LG49UH620V 4K tv monitor, I tried in all ways using utilities like CRU_1.3.exe by manually setting the frequency to 60hz, but i only get results as format Invalid.

Here my card and the latest drivers installed:

At this point I was told that I needed a hdmi 2.0 cable to get the 60hz, ordered and bought the cable in germany, HDMI 2.0 certificate, but it has not changed anything...:bang:

This is what I get from screen specifications, and screen settings..:

I also remember that the additional settings in previous drivers were many more, with many more options, these are the ones I get, we say that AMD has reduced the minimum the ability to manually change the user settings.:thumbdown

Personally I'm really disappointed with the latest drives and AMD home software advancement, i hope i do not have to throw everything, HDMI2.0 cable and 290 graphics card, i hope you in any solution, Thank You.

The 290 doesn't have an HDMI 2.0 interface, you need this.

Are 290 HDMI 2.0? I dont think so...

You need to use DP port with a DP to HDMI 2.0 converter. (converter)

HDMI under 2.0 cant go over 30Hz on 4k.

So the only solution is to spend another 30€:3eyes:------EHHHHhhh:bugeye:Oh My God.

I know HDMI under version 2.0 could not go beyond 30hz ... in fact I was told to buy version 2.0 that went beyond 30hz ... at 60Hz.

You might still be disappointed even when you get 60Hz 4K working.
Its not a good gaming card at that res.

You cant buy HDMI 2.0, the card either has it or it doesnt.
A cable cant change that for the positive.

Ok then there is no other solution, even via some bios mod of the graphics card:nerd:.
For me, also a resolution of "2560*1440" at 60HZ is fine, on desktop and game,
Now I'm at a crossroads, I do not know if you spend more money buying this magic converter with the 290, or taking a new certified 60hz graphics card for all the resolutions but at this point the choice is still AMD or return to Nvidia..

If you intend on playing modern games get a new decent card.
Absolute minimum of GTX 1070 (980ti if cheap, practically same performance), 1080 or 1080ti if you want 4K 60Hz.
Even a 1080ti will have to reduce quality settings a little on some games.
    A 1080ti is approx 70% faster than a 1070/980ti.

    A 290 is barely ok for 1080p 60Hz.
I wouldnt push it to higher res.

Yes, it may be barely OK in few games like Witcher 3.
In rest, it has no issues at all to go beyond 60fps.
If anything, GTX 1070 is not that much more powerful over R9-290 to push 4k any better than R9-290 pushes 1080p.

Or was you talking about "Hz"? Does it mean you are talking about DAC quality and that it is being pushed by just sitting on higher resolution?

@OP: Your choice may be even more expensive. Many games use pixel count culling method. That means they remove geometry in distance based on number of pixels it takes on screen. On 4k there will be more geometry to process in some games = more draw calls.
And your aging CPU is sub 3GHz chip. And as such, you may find that even GTX 1080Ti will not push 60fps in some games due to CPU limitations.
(That applies to Great looking AAA games. Indie games should not have problem to run well even with weaker GPU.)

I have updated my hardware profile.
In fact at 30hz I've played the latest games (Get Even, Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition, Prey, Outlast 2, FlatOut 4 Total Insanity, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Hitman, FarCry .. etc ..) and 30hz allowed The games were smooth like oil without flickering, blocks or anything else.:)
Logically I am aware that at a higher frequency I will lose fps.:eyes:
I do not want to change the video card at least for the moment, I will buy the adapter.

Nope, that's not how things work.
The frame rate is dictated by your system-hardware performance (mostly CPU and GPU). Instead you are actually limited to display 30 frame per seconds (if v-sync enabled) on your screen, better your screen is limited to refresh 30 time at second (30 Hz). If you buy a display-port cable or a display-port to hdmi adapter you will be able to display up to 60 frame per seconds or better your screen will be able to to refresh 60 times at second. Enabling tour screen to work @60HZ will not decrease your performance.

I dont really understand what you are saying.
    My points were specific.
A DAC has no function in a digital only system.

That was to point you towards your use of Hz vs fps.
Fps can be used as measurement of performance of GPU on given resolution.
Hz is pure property of screen and display controller communicating with screen.

GPU 2d/3D rendering performance itself has nothing to do with "Hz'.
Basically this is talking about display controller of R9-290 being pushed if used at higher than 1080p 60Hz.
I know that you did not meant it that way, but that's what you wrote.

I didnt want to say 60fps.
    It doesnt fit my narrative.

The alternative would be to say "up to 60fps".
60Hz is a simpler read and is more likely to register with the op.

    Certified 60hz? Lol wut?

Listen the 290 can do 4k60hz just fine, only it does it over displayport 1.2a not HDMI. The 290 has HDMI 1.4. Just buy the Club3D Active adapter I linked. I use that exact adapter on my 4k tv with my Fury's and it works just fine. And it has full 4.4.4 chroma support, no down-sampling.

30Hz is never smooth like oil unless you have a problem with your vision.
However if you are happy with it, thats all that matters.
You still wont be able to run max quality in some games but its much easier to get high settings at 30Hz.
    Good luck with it :)

    Covered a few times already.

    A 1080Ti is OK for 4K 60FPS but a 290 can barely push 1080p 60Hz? Sure.

I had a clocked 290x which was a bit of a compromise card at 1080p if I wanted to keep at 60fps with high to max quality settings.
I wouldnt want to use it at higher res and it is faster than the 290.

My 980ti was almost perfect at 1080p60, a few games had settings dropped to maintain 60fps constant and I could make use of lower DSR levels in some.
My 1080ti is overkill at 1080p60 unless using 4x DSR.

Since I had my 290x, new games are tougher requiring more power.
The situation is worse for the 290.

What sort of settings do you run such that 1080p 60FPS is not achievable with a 290X back when it was in its prime (or a couple of years afterwards)?

I ask because I've been running 1440p 110Hz for the last 4 years and don't see how the 290X could be a bottleneck for 1080p 60FPS unless by max you mean cranking AA to ridiculous levels - particularly SSAA, at which point you're not rendering at 1080p anyway.

A 980Ti being almost perfect for 1080p 60FPS means that a 290X falls around 1080p 40FPS. Again, what sort of settings on any modern game would have the 290X running at 1080p 40FPS?

A 1080Ti is 70% faster than a 980Ti. How did 70% go from being almost perfect for 1080p 60FPS to doing 4x that (4K) reasonably well?

I personally think this obsession with having to max a game whatever its graphics settings are (particularly intensive AA modes ala SSAA) prevents people from ever enjoying higher resolutions and refresh rates, simply because they get stuck in this vicious cycle of catching up for quality settings that simply bog down performance instead of actually allowing one to scale up to a higher resolution or refresh rate which both present day and night differences (improvements) to this graphics quality we speak of.

Again, I've been running 1440p 110Hz for the last 4 years and the last time I played below 60FPS was, well, never. That's with graphics settings maxed except for AA. For a game where I'd like to come closer to 110FPS, I lower a handful (3?) graphics settings slightly from the maximum setting, a notch lower. And that was on 7970 CF. I find myself doing it rarely with 290X CF (which is slower than a 1080Ti, mind).
