    Hi there,

I have been given an i7 4790k and an Asus z97-p

There is an issue that the system always thinks a new cpu has been installed and will not save bios settings or allow me to set the ram speeds

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Take out the battery from the mainboard. Remember which way it was facing down. Go into an electronics store, show it to them and request a new one exactly like it. Install it. This should fix it.

Sadly that did not work, got a new battery, shop also tested the old battery and still shows 3v

Looks like I need to find a skt 1150 mobo

    Thanks though RealNC

Carefully remove the CPU and refit it.
Check for bent pins in the CPU socket.

If I unclip/reclip my CPU it says a new CPU is fitted, mobos are designed to detect a change.
In your case it could be a bad connection on the detect pin or it is bent.

It is "very" easy to bend pins and they are not covered under warranty, so go careful.

This is how I got the motherboard, I have re-seated the CPU and took a look at the socket pins, no obvious damage on the cpu but i looked at the top right corner of the socket and 1 pin looks slightly misaligned so I think thats the cause

I'm not about to mess with that so as the system does work and plays games much better than my rig in my sig im happy and can get a new board in time i hope

    very few available sadly

Yeah if you can cope, stick with it.
